Changing to Carvedilol

Hi Having seen the Cardiologist in Jan I have now been advised my Bisoprolol is being changed to Carvedilol 6.25. Has anyone gone through the change in med and was it straightforward.

Secondly, he has asked the GP to start me on Edoxoban - but since we own and run a small holding not getting regular cuts and bruises is impossible- particularly as I enjoy my horse, hounds etc- is it really as bad as the NHS guidelines seem to suggest?

Hi, I was changed from 2.5mg Bisoprolol to 6.25mg Carvedilol. I didn't tolerate Bisoprolol very well, feeling much better and less lethargic on Carvedilol. It was relatively straight forward to change, just getting used to taking twice a day instead of one.

Thank you for a very considered, precise and comprehensive response! Just what I would have expected from a Schnauzer :-)

I’m on warfarin (due to mechanical heart valve) and haven’t really had any issues with it. Normal plasters still work fine for me, and any change in bruising hasn’t yet risen to the level of me noticing it.

Thank you! That is very encouraging news. I can dispense with the cotton wool and bubble wrap trousers

Hi, I was changed from Bisoprolol to Carvedilol 13mg (as I am asthmatic and Bisoprolol made me more breathless).

The switch over was easy and I very quickly felt better.

I struggled taking the 2 tablets at each end of the day so my GP suggested I just take both pills in the morning. Much easier and I’ve been doing that for 4 years without any issues.

Stay well my friend.

I'm on Edoxaban, have a small farm, horses, dogs, out most days doing "stuff". I'm going skiing in 2 weeks and also cycle. I have no problems apart from unsightly bruising if I bash myself. I wear a helmet skiing and cycling. Edoxaban doesn't thin your blood, it slows coagulation. Normal first aid, pressure etc stops most bleeds. You can get haemostop spray and plasters from Amazon. Get out there and enjoy your life. If you hit your head really hard the call 111. They'll probably send you to A&E. I did bang my head hard on a tree last year. I was home alone of course! Couldn't risk going to A&E as husband was away, needed to be here for animals. I very carefully monitored myself, particularly pupil size and reaction to light, headache etc. Sent husband a text explaining what had happened just in case I felt unwell and called 999 and passed out. I was fine but did have a bump for a week of so. I wouldn't recommend that route!

Delighted to hear I am not going to have to wrap myself in cotton wool - thank you so much! A teeny bit of self confidence has returned! Re head injury - it would perhaps help if the Irish Cob was not complete klutz at feed time....

Maybe pop a hat on when you're dealing with him! I have one who has no spatial awareness too, managed to avoid injury for a year though.

Oh he HAS spatial awareness...if it's space.... it is his. That is unless I yell at him, then his bottom lip goes all wobbly and he hides until he is 'forgiven'

Oh I love that- what a character

On the contrary - he is NOT a character - he is a very naughty boy! If only I could build a 'naughty step' strong enough so that he can't break that at least, the big twit would be on it for weeks

HelloI too have been through the change from Biso to carveldilol . Biso didn't agree with me either when my dosage had to be increased. I was nervous taking something new in case I went through another load of side effects but was actually fine. My dosage is two tablets in morning and three in evening which seems a lot but it's to control my VT episodes

Hope this helps

What Ho! Marley ! That is encouraging, I was concerned at the change- it is not as if it were discussed with me beforehand Thank you.

I changed from Bisoprolol (1.25mg) to Carvedilol (2 x 3.125mg), I was suffering from dry eye, a known side effect of Bisoprolol. No issues at all and my eyes are fine again.

And I thought it was just me being 'fussy' that me eyes were feeling 'odd' Thank you

I had dry eyes but they're ok now, funnily enough I'm now off beta blockers unless needed as a pill in pocket!

yes I have because Bisoprolol was a bit hard for me. It’s easier to tolerate for me and been on it 15 years now. Lots of love x

Thank you for your kind words and the 'long term user' report! That is really encouraging

Ps I think all our heart Consultants would recommend we try to do all the things we love and mitigate risk by always having our phones charged in case of issue but ‘do the thing’ is what mine has said. Except cold swimming. He’s not a fan of that for my issues at least. X

Hi

I was taken off Bisoprolol and started on Carvedilol as part of the four pillars of heart meditation. This was 6 months ago the transition from one to other has been fine no issues.

I am now on the optimum dose for the 4 pillars thus far all good.
