Hi all,

Well 10 day post opp, first time out the door since I was discharged, today had to visit my surgery to have my chest drain stitches out.

Have to say although the bypass and repair didn’t go to plan, since then everything has moved on smoothly, any pain diminished quite quickly so paracetamol has been minimum, obviously other medication has been added as I have an AF since the mitral valve was repaired so a blood thinner in the mix but thankfully not Warfarin so being reviewed in 3 months and their hoping that it will correct itself.

Water tablets work well, especially at night that I didn’t expect however swelling gone down in legs and ankles back to normality, I have to say I’ve never taken any sort of medication before this episode in my life but I have to say I find it amazing how well it works and does as it says, experiencing no side affects as of yet.

Wounds healed and scabs formed, again chest stitches have been complimented by any care professional who’s seen them so expecting a neat scar, leg now coming together and one stitch apparently not dissolved.

Sleeping well apart from getting up to pass water a bit more frequently than usual, does become a bit uncomfortable lying on your back, especially around shoulders and middle back.

So I’m feeling well, have been for my first walk today, been for a cup of coffee, so the schedule is on track and feel slightly ahead of the recovery curve.

Wherever you are on your journey stay positive which has helped me immensely and set your targets and goals, by the inch it’s a cinch by the yard it’s hard.

Fantastic news.Obviously, you need to take recovery slowly but the fact that you already feel able to enjoy a stroll despite the AF episode is incredibly positive and promising.

Hope things continue as they are now , take care , Bee

It sounds as if things are now going to plan, Zero and great news that you're managing to get out and about for a short walk already. Don't try to push too hard, just take things as they go and listen to your body. Thank you for sharing your positive story with us, it gives others reassurance who may be about to have the operation. Here's to a full and fast recovery.

Good luck mate. Don't forget the socks for 4-6 weeks and don't lift anything heavy or strech your arms high. Also keep using 2 towels when you a shower and use a soap not a shower gel until your wound is completely healed. Use a rolled towel or a small pillow when need to cough or sneeze. Be patient. It is a very slow recovery process. Listen to your body. I had a bypass op 5 months ago but i am still getting chest pains on the left.

Well done and hopefully continue your recovery. I still have numbness and infrequent pain in my leg where the vein was removed and the odd twinge and tightness in the chest, 11 months after my bypass. But everyone is different
