DAPT anaemia.

Hi All,I wonder if anyone has developed anaemia after DAPT. Been on prasugrel and asprin amongst others for 4 months now.

Last few weeks been having days of being wiped out all of a sudden from late afternoon. Very spaced out feeling, slight buzz in my ears. Spoke with doctor today, he feels it's very likely the meds have caused me to become anaemic. Ordered blood tests to check. Blood pressure all checks out great no other issues thankfully. But it's horrible all the same.

Thought id see if this had bothered anyone else.

Thanks..

I am sorry yo hear you have this problem- unfortunately Anti-Platelet Treatment can mean that you bruise much more easily - these repeated and more frequent small bleeds can leave you being more prone to iron deficiency anaemia

Your doctor will be able to treat this, but it will also be important for you to make sure your diet helps you to get enough iron and relevant minerals & vitamins

Your red blood count (and other levels connected with anaemia) should be checked regularly, particularly if you have other issues which cause repeated small bleeds - ask your GP about this when you get your results

Hi Fraz3

I am sorry you are having problems with anaemia. I had a STEMI in August last year and had a stent fitted. I was put on Aspirin and Prasugrel amongst other things and 2 weeks later ended up back in hospital as they thought I was having a gastric bleed as my Hb levels had dropped, since then I have undergone an endoscopy and more recently a colonoscopy as the Drs were convinced I was bleeding from somewhere as my Hb and iron levels had dropped quite drastically and quickly.

I was also having increased breathlessness and chest pains which I obviously thought was related to my heart attack. I kept asking the Drs if it could be related to the blood thinners as I am covered in bruises constantly but they didn't seem too keen to listen.

As all my gastro tests have come back normal (thankfully) they have now come round to the idea it could be the blood thinners !! However, I've still got to keep taking them because of my stent and i'm still covered in bruises so it looks like there is a link and now i'm on Iron for 6 months. I asked the Dr what would happen if I stop the Iron and my levels fall drastically again and all I got was "Well we would need to start from scratch again to see where you are losing blood".......... I was flabbergasted as I don't want to have to go through all those tests again if the same thing happens... her approach did nothing to reassure me to be honest... I hope you get some answers and will be interested to find out what happens. Good luck x
