I was on atenolol for many years but got switched to bisoprolol. I didn’t tolerate it at all and so 3 days ago the GP swapped me back to atenolol! My heart feels much better but I’ve had an upset tummy, feeling cold and a bit flu like ever since! Has anybody else experienced this? I’m not sure whether it’s withdrawal from the bisoprolol (because I took that twice a day and only take atenolol in the morning) or if it’s side effects of atenolol! Any advice would be appreciated as nobody else seems to know!

Hi, not had any of those side effects but I didn't really get on with either atenolol or bisoprolol. Both lowered my HR too much and left me walking round like an extra in the latest zombie apocalypse film. In my case as well as talking with my GP and Cardiologist I've found having an appointment with the practice pharmacist helped enormously with tweaking a couple of meds I struggled with.
Thank you for your reply! I tolerated atenolol pretty well in the past but have been off it 6 months so wondering if the initial restarting is a bit rough! I might give my pharmacist a call and have a chat about it!
No worries, I've had a few chats with the practice pharmacist and found him really helpful. Cardiologist was very happy with what he suggested too. In my case I had appointments arranged via the GP surgery. Best of luck
I don't think I could assist with an answer , I had been on atenalol for HIgh BP for many years . But it had become ineffective. And have been changed to a different Medicine for High BP now to help protect my kidneys .
