Is it possible that Atenolol can stop working? In the middle of the night over the last couple of days, I’m woken at night by a faster pulse, loud heart beat sound in my ears and headache. It feels like the Atenolol has run out of steam by that time after takingbit in the morning?

Atenolol stop working?
I doubt it , ask your GP ,maybe you need larger dose or different medication .
As said you need to speak to your GP. Things can change with time meaning a change of medication or dose. I do not know your drug regime but at one stage I developed palpitations in waking. It was caused by medication but none of the usual suspects. Give him a call today!
Atenolol has a half-life of 6-7 hours, whereas bisoprolol has a half-life of 9-12 hours, so the latter might be a better choice.
Atenolol is a rather out-dated beta-blocker now and the newer ones are preferred anyway.
You could also try taking it at night.
Talk it over with your GP
Thank you. I ended up in A and E yesterday and I will be seeing my go soon. Looks like my thyroid might be causing the problem.
I have the same experience, waking up and nightmares, fast pulse! After taking atenolol 50mg sleep like a baby without any problems since and no more horrible nightmares. What a relief since
