Bisoprolol side effects

Hello!

I made a post yesterday morning and since then I ended up in A&E - I have muscular dystrophy and dilated cardiomyopathy. I was on atenolol for 10 years and felt good on it! However, 6 months ago a new cardio nurse said my ziopatch showed an increase in afib, tachycardia and ectopics (even though I wasn’t really symptomatic) so changed me to bisoprolol 2.5 twice a day. I did not tolerate this so was reduced to 1.25 however I’ve still been getting random palpitations, uncomfortable flutters and chest discomfort along with general not well. Ever since being on the bisoprolol I feel worse! My cardiomyopathy has always been well managed, until now! I’m hoping to be seen by GP today and will ask to be changed but does anybody have any advice on whether it would be better to go back to old faithful atenolol or try something new? I’m getting married in 4 months and I can’t be feeling this unwell, not with all my other complex needs!

I just want to say congratulations on your wedding. It won't hurt to ask to be put back on Atenolol. I don't know what your GP is like but I once told my GP what I wanted and he had a go at me so I then changed GP and the one I have now welcomes my lists lol. Could it be stress as well as the Bisoprolol? Good luck and hope everything gets sorted x

Thank you very much! I’ve restarted atenolol today (after agreement from my GP) and so far feeling better! Fingers crossed it stays that way! Thankfully my GP is pretty good at listening to me and take my thoughts on board! X

I am really pleased for you. We are all different. My late dad was allergic to Atenolol and Nicorandil. My mum had a heart rate of 46 on Bisoprolol. I don't know if she still takes it

I hope the wedding goes well and the same for you! I was very intolerant of meds, the cardiologists really tried with me, since then I have been fitted with a pacemaker, and touch wood, all has been well. Still take meds, but very different ones, and only 1.25mg of bisoprolol. Good days and bad days - but quality of life is so improved, I cannot complain...
