5 weeks ago she started a statin, Ticagrelor, Asprin and Omeprazole after a STEMI and PCI.
I think she has gout in her big toe as this is a listed side effect.
I've looked at foods to eat and avoid.
Is medication essential to treat it?

Get her to speak to her doctor. There are meds to help with the pain and definitely foods to avoid. I don’t have it but my mum did when she was alive.
Hi, the only way to determine gout is to aspirate the toe joint and confirm uric acid has formed crystals in that joint. I was misdiagnosed with gout about 15 years ago. I had a broken sesamoid bone 🤦🏼. Recently , post hip replacement, my foot and big toe swelled up and was excruciatingly painful. I was checked for DVT as I was 3 weeks post surgery and my lower leg was red. I read that the blood thinner I was on post procedure had been known to cause polyarthritis in some patients and joint pain. I was given the ok to stop taking it and had a very gradual decrease in pain and swelling over the next two weeks. My uric acid levels were normal but I’m sure if a GP looked at my toe they would have said it was gout , it’s an easy thing for them to pick on. Luckily I had an appointment with a GP that listened to my history and has referred me to a consultant rheumatologist to see what is going on , I have osteoarthritis but the reaction was incredibly acute and painful. I hope your mother is able to get comfortable. I couldn’t stand a bed sheet touching my foot, even on crutches , non weight bearing was terribly painful. I had an Nstemi heart attack in July 2023 and quadruple bypass, on statin, pantaprazole , 1.25mg bisoprolol and half 1.25 tablet ramipril, not had any bother on these regarding my foot. It might have been a side effect of Apixaban , I just don’t want another 3 weeks episode like that again 🤣.
Gout is really painful so see gp
I used to get gout I now take Allpurinol it keeps me gout free.
Yes contact a Dr,there is medication which is very good. Mine was a direct result of taking Doxysoscin for the first time.Excruciating pain.
I suffered with gout, I was told it was the diuretics creating too much uric acid in my body. It started in my big toe and affected the joints in my fingers. One is now bent. If she has gout she must be in so much pain.
I saw my gp who arranged for me to go to a specialist unit at the hospital. They diagnosed gout after doing tests and gave me some tablets colchacene, I’ve spelt it wrong, after that course I was prescribe allopurinol, which I’m still talking 10 yrs later.
I have to not eat too much of certain foods which could causes flare ups.
