Bisoprolol fainting : Hello everyone I... - British Heart Fou...
Bisoprolol fainting
oh yes I faint using bisaprolol my cardiologist wants me to take it again but because of the fainting episodes I had twice I’m scared to take it now my blood pressure is fine I think using it makes blood pressure too low x
Thank you for letting me know I have been only diagnosed for a few months and it's hard to know what are symptoms and what are side effects this has happened since the bisoprolol was increased from 7.5 to 10 mg so I cannot put up with this and all the other increased side effects am going to ask if I can go back to 7.5. I am on digoxin and furosemide as well and navigating through all of this is a bit of a journey I will put up with a lot to get my conditions under control but I have reached a point where it is now unbearable thank goodness again for this forum and the kind people on it who take the time to reply to the newbies!
Hi, the Bisoprolol can definitely lower your B.P - as will the Furosemide. I would have a chat with your Heart Failure Nurses, your G.P or your Cardiologist. You could also ask them to review the time of day you take your meds - which may also help. I have to take my Bisoprolol at bed time, together with another heart medication - as they both lower my already chronically low B.P, so if I feel faint, I’m laying down anyway! Hope you get it sorted.
I would give whoever increased it a bollocking. Check your bp and heart rate.
Talk to your GP and / or try the pharmacist where you get your meds. I was taken off ramipril by my GP . You could at least get advice about dropping it back to 7.5 if you were ok on that.
I was like a zombie on 3.5mg , I think 10mg would’ve knocked me over 🤦🏼🤣🤣 I’ve been in 1.25 and been told I can stop taking it 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
I take mine at night so I don't have a problem.
I’m on 2,5 Bisoprolol can’t go higher because of low bp which I had low bp before I went on it. Did they start you off low dose then increase it as your body gets used to it?
At first on bisoprolol I was having regular "whiteouts" - near fainting episodes where everything looked like an overexposed photo - but these stopped as they reduced my bisoprolol progressively and I've not had one since I've been on 1.25 mg minimal dose.
I'm on 11.25mg Bisoprolol + Digoxin + Apixaban + Furosemede + Lansaprozole & Famatodine. - maybe that's why I get some woo hoo moments - but who to ask anymore?
On 10mg daily too which advised to take in the morning, but asking if can change dosage to 5mg and 5mg at night as symptoms ie erratic heart rate, excess wind/burps etc seem to be worse at night. Anyone else have same experience?
Thank you again everyone for your posts so so useful. Interesting jackrussellsrule as the last 2 weeks I have had erratic heart rate that I can feel and also my persistent afib which I don't normally as was asymptomatic when diagnosed. My heart rate was 125 when on 7.5mg that's why he increased to 10mg and starting me on digoxin my HR is now 90 but my gp wants to get it to 80 but this has gone over the top I have come to a standstill I normally swim 3 times a week and walk loads but can't even walk into the pool now so had to suspend my membership until I can get functioning again, Am seeing gp Monday so asking what are the options either reduction, split dose or at night but I am insisting on one of them.
I’m seeing my consultant on Tuesday - first time since being discharged from hospital 13th Sept - and will ask him then if change in dosage possible/advisable and let you know what he recommends.
Went to gp yesterday my blood pressure had dropped so he agreed I could take 5mg in morning and 5mg at night so started today hopefully I will feel more human during the day as well! Anyone else done this switch? How long should I give it to see if it is working in this dosage? Have you actually changed yet jackrussellsrule?
It might be time to buy a BP cuff monitor. You may be able to get finacial help with that if your doc prescribes one for you. It's worth it because your BP rate might be higher when you get it taken at the doc's office or in hospital but much lower when you are relaxed at home, so it would be highly beneficial to take your readings every week at home. (Look up white coat syndrome)
Have an automatic one but fails because I am persistent afib and my rate goes from 60 to 110 and doesn't stop for long in-between so my gp always does a manual one and I see that they are available for quite reasonable prices so will get one and see if I can get a reasonable reading thanks for the idea.
Gp confirmed my blood pressure is low spoke to bhf cardiac nurse who said there is now an auto blood pressure monitor that is suitable for afib, bought one today the omron one, I rang omron and they said it gives an accurate readings as it takes afib into account, we will see! I think it will be good to know when my blood pressure drops myself. Thanks for the advice
As mentioned in some of the replies.1. Take before bedtime, if you can
2. Check with cardiologist on reducing amount until no dizzyness
Bisoprolol is meant to reduce heart rate (below 100), as per my cardiologist. Did for me.
But google indicated this beta blocker reduces blood pressure.
Had lots of dizzy spells when sitting up, and few episodes of fainting, when also unconscious for around 20secs...For past 3 weeks have now been placed on Verapamil instead of Bisoprolol...Not had any chestpains though...As long as you keep feeding back to specialists, everyone is different, hope ye can get a resolution.
I was fainting sometimes when having an AF episode and found that my blood pressure went down whilst my heart rate went up with the AF. I stopped taking my normal bp medication till the AF passed. I'm now on Bisoprolol every day with flecanide and when the AF starts I still don't take my normal bp medication and monitor my bp until my heart returns to normal rhythm. So far I haven't fainted for a while - famous last words - and only take the Bisoprolol and Flecanide when my bp is high enough when the AF happens. My GP said that low bp was not connected with the fainting but I am now doing my own thing to try to avoid the fainting.
Hi.I take 7.5mg of Bisoprolol a day. I used to take 2.5mg in the evening before bed and 5mg in the morning. However, I was getting very light headed in the daytime and unable to walk in a straight line - sort of off balance because of the bisoprolol dosage. My doctor changed my dosage to 5mg at night and 2.5mg in the morning and that does seem to have made it a lot better. I do still get occasional spells where I feel like I'm going to faint, but just drink water and deep breathe and they pass.
Hope you get yours sorted. Maybe ask to try a different beta blocker, that may help.
Best wishes, Denise
Hi bisoprolol can drop blood pressure too low my GP couldn't increase my dosage because of fainting risk due to low BP check with GP to see if there is any alternative to bisoprolol
l have been using Bisoprolol as a PIP for AF. I was recently told to take it regularly 1.25mg because my symptoms have increased. I have only taken it for 4 days and had to stop. My blood pressure dropped 74/40. I am feeling breathless today with chest pain, headache and nausea. Feel like l am in outer space and my heart is in a vice. I know lots of us can’t take this drug so l will be seeking advice. They are worse than the AF for me. What did AE say? Did your blood pressure drop to cause the fainting? Horrible drug for me.
Sorry only just seen this - as others have said it sounds like low blood pressure.
I had the same reaction and now have on my med notes I can’t have beta blockers. So I take a calcium blocker and have no problems with it. I hope you found a solution
Take care keep safe ☺️
