I stopped taking Ramipril for the wrong reason- excruciating burning pain in my left calf.

Diagnosed at UCLH A&E as Ciprofloxacin induced inflammation of the left Achilles tendon.

During 5 hour wait at UCLH for result of blood tests I studied the Ramipril patinet information leaflet and realised:

1. burning is an extremely rare side effect there fore not the cause.

2. that I was experiencing listed side effects that had a debilitating effect on my life gradually- did not realise that my daily life had deteriorated:

• Sexual inability in men, reduced sexual desire in men or women

unable to even masturbate at all.

• Feeling weak

• Reduced urine output/ difficulty urinating

• Sweating more than usual

• Pain in your joints

• Nausea

Doing much better of Doxazosin. Side effect no 1 has resolved. Urine output greatly improved.

I was on Ramipril once and never, ever again. I had extreme fatigue, weakness, pain in my joints, blurred vision and worst of all shortness of breath. I stopped it and the doctor just increased my Lopressor to twice a day instead of bedtime. The symptoms eased up for a time then came back worse than ever and I had to go to the ER because I couldn't go 2 feet without having to stop and double over trying to breath. The staff had to come out of the hospital with a wheel chair for me as I couldn't make it on my own. The damned Ramipril had either been masking it or actually making a previously unknown aortic valve malfunction worse. I ended up having a TAVR not long after they got me straightened out from the serious case of pulmonary edema I had
