Any help, advice or personal experience appreciated* thank you in advance
I have my catheter ablation date for my svt it's scheduled for November the 8th that's worrying enough but I have to stop my beta blockers 5 days beforehand so Sunday coming will be my last day on the medication
I've been taking propranolol modified release 80mg for a good 10 years plus.... I'm so worried about quitting cold turkey that I feel so ill in anticipation, any advice or anything relating to this would be very much appreciated thank you and also your catheter ablation stories would be good too
Many thanks

I had my ablation last month for SVT and had to come off Bisoprolol 5 days before. I was fine for the first three days but after that my heart rate shot up just standing up. I got advice from the pre assessment team who said to start the beta blockers again rather than end up in A&E. I’ve been on them 7 years. Check with your cardiology team to see what to do if your palpitations return. I didn’t take one on the morning of the ablation. Unfortunately my ablation was not a success. They did some ablation but were still able to trigger my SVT. They did some more mapping and found an area too close to the AV node to ablate without risking a permanent pacemaker. I was disappointed but they discovered my SVT is sensitive to flecainide so I had a CT scan to rule out coronary artery disease so I can start taking it soon. My SVT is Atrial Tachycardia which is one of the harder ones to treat. The procedure was done under local anaesthetic and I had some light sedation and pain relief. They went in both sides of the groin. The procedure lasted 3.5 hours. It was uncomfortable in places but bearable. Recovery was fine - just be careful of your groin and heavy lifting for a couple of weeks. I rested as much as possible in the first week and was not allowed to drive. I hope you have a successful procedure.
Thank you for sharing your experience with me, it sounds like you've not had it easy, I hope you're doing better now, I really appreciate hearing your experience with this 🙂
Happy to help. Let me know if you have any more questions. I’m doing fine, just waiting for my GP to prescribe Flecainide which I really hope will keep me SVT free. You will be well looked after during the procedure and everything will be explained as you go along. Let me know how you get on.
