Bisoprolol anxiety

I have recently increased my Bisoprolol dose and experienced a huge increase in anxiety with some horrendous panic attacks. Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks

An overdose can cause anxiety but that's extremely unlikely if you're taking the prescribed amount. In any case you should contact your doctor.

Really , you are most probably anxious because of my best friend Bisos poor press, it’s a lifesaver I take 12 mg daily, lead a full and happy life and have been on them for 10+ yrs . Biso is your friendly lifesaver.

Started on 5mg and had terrible anxiety and nearly fainted in supermarket. Put down to 2.5 and anxiety gradually built up again, Doc stopped it for a week or two and then put me back on it and I was climbing the walls and pacing round the house. Not for everyone and I was taken off it. Still having difficulty coming off it after nine weeks. I am very susceptible to certain medicines.

Different people can be affected in different ways by medicines and your first port of call should be your GP perrhaps asking for a referral back to Cardio.

I've been on Bisoprolol for best part of 10 years now - 5mg - but in June out of the blue suffered my 3rd HA. Whilst in hospital undergoing tests one of the ECG's all of a sudden started showing me having heart block, so was taken off the Bisoprolol for a few days and then re-introduced to it at 1.25mg instead. As for blood thinners found there is 1 I have an adverse reaction to. Just shows it's not always horses for course, lucky for me this all happened while in hospital this time. Just par for the course for me having been around Cardio problems for so long, I accept it for what it is but talk closely to my GP & Consultant.

I'm on 7.5mg Bisoprolol daily, have been for almost ten years. To be honest I've never heard of the anxiety connection before, and haven't suffered from it. I do have the very annoying constantly running nose. But apart from that, all good. I hope the medics get you sorted.

Hi, It is highly unlikely the Bisoprolol has induced your anxiety. This is mind related because you have had to increase it, which I presume is to help an ongoing medical condition. The mind is very powerful. All the best.

Hi, I think you know your body and if something is not right, you have a right to question this correlation. As it is listed under one of the side effects of 'overdose' it could mean your body is experiencing the dose as too high (ie an 'overdoese'). It could also depend on your liver's ability to process the drug. Everyone has different reactions to things, which I fully respect. I had horrible symptoms from Bisoprolol some of which the Cardiologist had not heard of before, but because of the way the quality of my life was affected I had to cease taking it agreed by my doctors, and take it as and when needed. It may be an interesting experiment to see what happens if you reduce back down to your former dose again and see if the symptoms go. It does have a half life so may take a bit of time to clear the excess from your system. I hope things do settle for you soon drugs.com/sfx/bisoprolol-si...

Louis,

Bisoprolol has been a life saver to me. Last year out of no where suddenly had right chest pain . after 3 hours not going away i walked into a and e . I honestly thought it was nothing but told my resting heartrate was 112bpm which was far too high

Still walk 10,000 steps a day, have active sex life, still love my skiing and drink lager every day and now never felt better. BP is now normal and pulse rate under control.

Talk to your GP about your concerns but I would say the drug is great..

Louise, I was prescribed bisoprolol initially 1.25mg and then increased to 2.5 mg twice a day. Since I Have increased i have felt better and have not had as much chest pain. Never experienced any other symptoms , however I have noticed increased weight gain which is because this drug is a beta blocker.
