Had a surprise call this morning from cardiology dept.I was asked to come in this coming Wednesday for a "pre assessment" for angiogram with the procedure to be done on 16th October.
What happens on a "pre assessment" please?

I had mine last week, they take bloods and blood pressure and swap your nose and groin... Ive got my angiogram this friday.
swab your nose, not swap 😂
They ask loads of questions too, general stuff and will want a list of your medications
Hope your procedure goes well on Friday.Do they discuss whether to give drugs to help with relaxation etc.
Is yours a "day surgery" procedure?
I got offered "gin and tonic" when I had my most recent angiogram (via the groin). Was too out of it a bit for the previous one as I'd hardly slept after being admitted to CCU via A&E after my heart attack.
I wasn't offered relaxation meds for angiogram but mine was done by CT. The TAVI came with relaxation and pain killing meds.
Yeah they told me they will try to go in the wrist, if no success they will go via the groin. Its at 1pm Friday, they told me to pack an overnight bag just incase of complications but normally the procedure will last about 40 mins and i will have to wait in a ward for an hour or two while they pump air out of the wrist or something like that. They will explain all that. They said there is a team of 6 during the procedure, they pump dye and xray your heart and can put stents in and stuff while they are in there if they need too... All sounds pretty cool. Just hope as my apps on friday afternoon that they dont want to just rush it so they can get down to witherspoons early
cheers.
That's a new one on me, did they not explain what was going to happen?
I had a quick google, it seems to be a medical exam, medicine review etc. and general fitness check. Have you still not had a contact with specialist nursing team?

Your pre procedure assessment is to basically find out relevant details about you concerning your state of health, medication, mobility, etc etc and to give you instructions about any preparations you may need to make prior to your appointment e.g stopping anti coagulants or anti platelet meds a day or two before, and arranging for transport to take you home. You may be asked to attend in person or it may be done by phone. The format may vary according to the angio team who are doing your procedure. There is another recent thread on here covering someone's experience of undergoing an angiogram so I suggest you look for it to find out what happens during the procedure itself.
