hi I’ve been prescribed a Symbicort inhaler for low peak flow. Is it ok to take with all my meds for heart failure and AF. I’ve tried a dose and I got some palpitations a splitting headache and some chest pain. This could be due to anxiety but I’ve stopped the inhaler whilst I get more advise.

Hi,Is there a leaflet with the symbicort? That's the first place to look.

If it doesn't answer your question, ring 111 for advice as it's out of hours.

thanks the leaflet goes through all the contra indications and I have several. I think I’ll not use it until I’ve checked with a health care professional

this ought to have been checked before prescribed. Anyway, your doctor’s group of practices probably employs a pharmacist who would be in the best position to help your doctor choose the best medication for you.

Your practice website online will probably give more details of these pharmacists.. in my case you have to ring the receptionist to get in touch with them.

Thanks I was thinking of visiting my pharmacist failing that I’ll ring my cardiac nurse.

My husband has COPD and uses Symbicort. He doesn't have heart failure but he had a heart attack 2 years ago and takes Bisoprolol, Losartan, Amlodipine and aspirin, as well as 2 other inhalers, Tamsulosin and Lansoprazole. He's not had ill effects although he was already using the Symbicort before the heart attack. Hope this helps

I have Asthma and also had a heart attack following which some stents have been fitted into my heart.

Because of my Asthma I have been on symbicort and bricanyl (terbutaline sulphate) for over 30 years.

Following my heart attack I am on

Bisoprolol, Asprin, Atorvasatin, Irbesartan, Monomil and Omeprazole.

I have not had any issues.

It could be that your dose or frequency of Symbicort maybe high.

Early on I used to get headaches when I took symbicort, because the frequency was high, upon reduced usage I don’t get any headaches.

Best to check with your GP or pharmacist.

Hi, I've had heart failure for about 10 years now and am currently taking entresto, spironolactone, bumetanide, ezetimibe, ivabradine, spring, pregabalin, lanzaprozole and amatriptyline. I've had asthma for about 20 years and over years have changed steroid inhalers many times due to side effects. I just get in touch with asthma nurse, tell her the side effects I'm getting and she tries me with another one. So far I've had them all and fortunately the one I'm on now, luforbec, isn't causing any problems. For me side affects have been tight chest and breathless about 20 mins after taking. Hope you get an inhaler that suits you soon.

I take one puff of Symbicort in the morning. It doesn't give me any side effects. However if you believe you are getting side effects from this or any medication talk to your GP or a pharmacist. No-one on here can advise you what to do about taking medication, nor should they, that's why it is left to health professionals who are qualified to answer, and may have access to your medical records.

Thank you, you are correct I’m finding no one on here is on the meds I am for one reason and another. I will speak to a health care professional before I try any more of the inhaler.

It is interesting to hear other people’s experiences with that caveat of non of us being qualified
