I have been waiting, since 2 nd April, got op date for aug5 th (18 weeks) op was cancelled at the last minute and I’m still waiting, was then told beginning of oct? I was told with rca blockage and severe and moderate on the other two it was more of a priority…I’d be seen within 12 weeks , this didn’t happen. Depends on the severity of patient needs and your hospitals lists. Emergencies take priority of course so it depends on a lot of variables, staffing also plays a part. I'm waiting for Southampton and was told they are always cancelling at the last minute so prepare yourself for this happening . I wasn’t expecting the operation to be cancelled literally as I was expecting to have my pre-med and be wheeled down this was at 3 pm so a long anxious day waiting, very frustrating and lots on this site will say it’s the waiting that’s more stressful so hope your area runs smoother…. Good luck
Depends on severity and where you are in the country. I was due to wait months but got worse and was admitted to hospital and was kept in until the operation (5 and a half weeks). If I hadn’t deteriorated and been admitted I would have waited months.
this is a bit difficult to answer as it really is related to the individuals needs and the hospital you are under. But I was at wythenshawe and had my op 26/8 and had been first seen in early may and I had a double with a 99% LAD blockage and compared with average wait times I was probably 2-3 weeks earlier than expected.
What I’d say is the fact you have seen a cardiologist is good as things can move quite quickly after that. There will be a series of tests to undergo which again if you have a responsive team can happen quick and finally I’d say don’t hesitate to occasionally ask for an update on your list position and make them aware if it applies to you that you can take a short notice surgery date.
Again this is all my own personal experience and others may of course have different opinions so take as much advice as you need.
thanks for the response I appreciate it. I also appreciate that I’m clutching at straws 😂as everyone’s case is different. There are just so many things that are up in the air whilst we wait for a date.
I was diagnosed in january 2023, told 6 months, but had triple in August 2023, it was during doctors strike, so I added a week to my expectations each time they went on strike. I was told the meds would keep me safe meanwhile. I was lucky, and offered a private hospital place, otherwise I don't know when I would have been done, could have been much longer.
My circumstances were very different as I was kept I'm hospital till my operation. I think it mostly depends in the surgeons list and beds available and most importantly, a bed in ICU. All hospitals are different. Thete may be a surgeon available and a place on his list, bit of there is not a bed in ICUrhen there is no operation!! Why don't you phone your hospital and ask what the protocol is? and where you are in the list!?
Hello Hart2202, I only waited 7 weeks for CABG x4 earlier this year, but I think I'm one of the lucky ones. As others have said, it all depends on the individual and circumstances. My scheduled operation was cancelled but I was kept in hospital and a slot was conjured up for 4 days later. Hope it's not too long for you.
I had a dizzy spell the Wed before Easter'21. I had an appointment that morning to see a doctor. From there I had appointments at the Countess OF Chester. On the 6th August I had different test's done at Broadgreen Hospital, Liverpool. I then went in to see the heart surgeon. I was given a date 10th Nov'21 admission operation on the 11th Nov. I had a quadruple and a replacement heart valve. I came home 0n the 17th November. It took me quite some time to recover. Try not to worry.
thank you. He was due to see the Surgeon on Thursday and they have just rang and cancelled, moved it to 2 weeks time. We are devastated. we wanted answers and have had nothing. i know 2 weeks isnt long to wait in the grand scheme of things, but the poor fella has been told nothing, other than his condition is severe, then nothing! He is going out of his mind at the moment. We were due to go away at the end of October for a friends wedding, and i wanted confirmation to cancel the trip, he wont be able to get insurance to travel anyway, but its just another thing hanging over us.
Hi just read your post saying his appointment has been cancelled and is now in 2 weeks time. I’m sorry to hear this and know how frustrated and worried you must feel, it’s so annoying when you have questions you need answers to and now you have to wait another 2 weeks. Try not to get stressed as obviously that won’t help your hubby or you ( I know that’s easier said than done) Best wishes to you both and good luck 🍀🍀 please keep us updated. 😊🌞X.
Hi Hart22 my own experience is I had my appointment on the 18th of October and my surgery on the 4th of November so very quick. However as you say everyone is different but I would hope as it’s severe it will be very soon. Good luck to your hubby 🍀🍀best wishes to you both 😊🌞X.
Thanks, he has had his appointment cancelled today which was suppose to be Thursday this week. We have both been counting down, knowing this is the day we will get some answers but now have to carry on waiting I am glad your experience was positive and will keep my fingers crossed that when he finally gets there it’s not a long wait xx
I think I was a bit lucky in a way with my CABGx2 as I was in Malta on a cruise. I only had to wait 5 days after my heart attack and release from hospital 5 days after but we had to stay in the island for a month before I was fit to fly home
I had my consult on 4th May this year and went into Southampton on 6th June for a CABG x3. I had been diagnosed with severe stenosis. I don't know whether it made any difference, but I am the sole carer for my disabled wife, so I might have been considered a special case. At the time I was told three months.
No-one likes to see 'severe' on their medical notes, but if there was any doubt as to how bad the condition is, they would've done something right away. I was first diagnosed with severe stenosis on 13th March, but the meds I was given made me feel great! Hope it all gets sorted double-quick!
I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I went to the doctors suspecting angina. Was told I'd probably had a heart attack and go straight to A&E. Because of my unstable condition I was kept in and had a triple bypass after 3 weeks of tests
my husband went to a and e earlier. And has currently been admitted and is waiting for cardiac enzymes blood test results. The surgeon has said that they don’t want to do an emergency cabg due to increased risk, it sounds like he will be sent home with more meds and his surgery expedited possibly 🤷♀️
