This is a list of the daily drugs I am on.Rampril 5mg

Simvastatin 40mgs

Furosemide 40 mgs

Bisoporol 2.5mgs

Apixaban 5mgs -one every 12 hours.

Simvistatin I take before going to bed.

Furosemide (water tablets) I take first thing in morning along with the others. The 2nd Furosemide I take about 7pm to 8pm.

if you haven’t been told by your doctor, the dispensing pharmacist, or the pharmacist employed by your doctor’s group of surgeries then you should follow the guidance on the pack insert. Statins are often said to be best at night. “Water” tablets : some people take then at the time to suit their routine as they might make you pee extra, it make sure it’s the same time approx each day.

The best person to advise you if you aren’t sure is the pharmacist at your doc’s. See the practice leaflet online, or phone the receptionist. Different surgeries deal with pharmacist appointments in different ways.

Good morning Gooner1947. You have already been given good advice. And the quickest way to get an answer. I much prefer to take tablets after food unless it tells you differently on the medication. Brian

Hi Gooner, I'm not sure about the other tablets but the Furosemide I take early in the morning and then the second one at midday. I was told to do this as it can affect you during the night with getting up and using the toilet. It works for me anyway.

I would check with pharmacist on timing of the 2nd furosemide - I certainly would not take it so late in the evening as I would get no sleep! A relation who takes 2 tablets takes the 2nd one at 2pm.

the water pills always take with food, so breakfast and dinner

I have been taking 40mg of furosemide in the morning for several years now and still had lower leg swelling until my new GP suggested taking 40mg twice a day which seems to have improved the condition. However, he did recommend taking the second one within 4 hours of the first one, I'm not sure why, but I will check why next time I see him. I try to space my 2 x 5mg apixaban about 12 hours apart and have never had any excessive bleeding.

Hi Gooner1947, my mum is on the twice daily apixaban, 1 mg butenamide (frusemide didn't agree), plus Angitil SR 90 (verapamil didn't agree) and spironalactone 12.5 mg. She had problems timing her meds before as she struggles to get up and is a night owl. So she was taking her apixaban and verapamil at 12pm and 10pm. You'd notice palpitations kicking in as she was going for too long between doses of v. Now, she keeps the first lot of meds by her bed and swallows the first round of tabs at 9am before going back to bed. Thats close enough to 12 hours if she takes the 2nd round of apixaban at 10pm. No trouble yet, keeps a few plain biscuits by her bed so not technically on an empty stomach. Butenamide is 1 per day in the AM for her, it suited her better. It was constant weeing on the frusemide. The Angitil SR is slow release so less important timewise, but she does flag towards the end of the day (but no serious issues really)
