Need GTN despite meds

I'm almost 85 & had a 2nd heart attack on 3/2/24. Needed defibrillator in ambulance, local hospital not available, so taken to another one. Existing stents ballooned.

Recovering well but 3 weeks later, hospitalised for 10 days with low sodium. Only just stabilising with medication and restricted fluids of 850ml daily.

Attending cardio rehab for 2nd time as 1st time, wasn't well enough to go to all sessions.

Prescribed isosorbide mononitrate 20mg twice daily for tightness and mild chest pain.

Try to take short walks 4/5 times a week but feel that I'm getting worse. 10 mins on flat today and tightness in chest/back & shoulders. Spray sorted very quickly but I thought that meds should be handling that.

Delayed follow up 2 months ago with Dr at hospital, who couldn't understand why I have angina. Waiting for another follow up with a cardiac nurse at my local hospital.

Prior to HA, I was walking well, working in garage and garden regularly. Anyone suffering from similar issues?

I would guess it depends whether this heart a t tack di d further damage to your heart. Have you had an echo to physically look at he heart and find out your ejection fraction? I would contact the consultant's secretary and ask for further tests. Wow congratulations on what you were doing at that age.

the regular meds will support your heart under normal conditions, i.e. during routine, light activity - but when you are more active you heart has to work harder and may need more help

have you tried using the GTN spray just before you do something more energetic?

ask about this at your next rehab session - your pharmacist might also be able to offer advice
