Hi does anyone out there suffer from ectopic heartbeats? I was diagnosed with them two years ago but recently have been kept awake at night with a weird hollow sensation in my chest and have had lots of episodes of lightheadedness and discomfort in my neck and under my chin.Any advice would be apreciated I'm finding this hard to deal with as the symptoms are happening on a daily basis it is very frightening. Before I was diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation that is exactly what I had. It may be worth going back to your doctor again. I thought mine was all to do with the menopause. Don't be worried about it, there is lots they can do to help it. It is hard sometimes though when it's your heart. Hope you get it sorted.

Thanks Mel.I got the ball rolling today saw my cardiologist. A minority of people apparently have debilitating symptoms of ectopic beats and it seems I'm one of them!Another 48 hour monitor, upped my bisoprolol to 10mg and see what happens. I may be able to have an ablation if they can pinpoint an exact spot causing the problem. Thanks again for your response.

Thanks Jenny. You're right they can be very scary ending up in A&E on several occasions is no fun either. Saw cardiologist today and seems I've been taken seriously for once!He has a strategy I'm hoping that upping my beta blockers will help. Lots to do before Christmas ,no fun when you feel dreadful. Thanks again.Judy.

Hi Judy,

I was diagnosed with Ectopic heartbeats about 8 years ago.

I have never experienced the symptoms you are having. I just get what feels like a missed heartbeat and then a bigger heartbeat than normal. The missed heartbeat is in fact an extra heatbeat (the more heartbeats the better in my opinion). Even though they can be disconcerting they are harmless and nothing to worry about.

I would go to your GP and get it checked out. I'm sure everything is ok but this will give you piece of mind.

All the best

Nick

Hi hun i was diagnosed with the 3 yrs ago but mine turned out to be cardiac sarcoidosis and now have defib fitted am not saying that is what is happening with you lol but it does sound more then just eptopic heartbeat i agree with the other you must go get that checked out because me mum was the same she was told for years she had eptopic heartbeats and it ended up being atrial fibrillations and it seems quite a few people have has the same experience x

I have had these since I had my new mitral valve fitted last May. I was readmitted for a few days and the consultant said they were nothing to worry about and as others have said a lot of people have them. The consultant upped my bisoprolol to 5mg and things are much better now although I do still have them for fairly short periods. Apart from light headedness I have not had your symptoms - so as others have said - get it checked out and make sure you have an ecg - or they may put you on a portable heart monitor for a few days. It's nothing to worry about - about the size of a mobile phone with a few stick on wires. That way you either put your mind at rest or find out what it is and have the appropriate treatment.

Thanks for your response I've seen the cardiologist today. It seems I'm one of the unlucky ones who have debilitating symptoms of ectopic beats,I'm having another 48 hr monitor in the hope that the affected area can be found and then they may be able to cure them with an ablation in the meantime upped bisoprolol to 10mg. Fingers crossed that the drugs work.
