Ectopic heartbeats

I have been prescribed Amlodipine 5mg for hypertension in April.

At the end of July I was prescribed Bisoprolol 2.5mg for ectopic heartbeats. Although it has only been a few weeks, I don’t feel comfortable with it, I feel lightheaded and need to rest more than normal. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms?

HiWhen I started bisoprolol it took about 8 weeks to get used to it, since then I feel a lot better than I did before.

However, everyone is different and it would probably be worth trying to ask your GP for advice. Some people split their dose, having half in the morning and half in the evening. You could ask the GP if that is worth trying.

I hope it improves for you soon.

Thanks, will discuss with GP who intended to double dose soon on cardiologist advice.

I was on 2.5mg bisoprolol after bypass surgery and, like you, I was lightheaded especially when standing up from sitting. I also had cold hands, which is a side effect of beta blockers like bisoprolol. I stayed with it for several months but it got no better. At my next review my surgeon halved my dose to 1.25mg and both the light-headedness and cold hands have gone away. I think my blood pressure and heart rate both got a bit too low with 2.5mg. You may have the same problem. It's worth waiting a bit to see if you get used to it. If not, discuss with your GP. I can also recommend getting a blood pressure monitor. You can gather some data to help your discussion with your GP.

Thank you so much for your comments. I do control BP with a home monitor.

I was put on metoprolol and was dizzy, tired and lethargic and had really cold feet. Switched to carvedilol and had the same problem. Switched to nebivolol and everything seems fine now.

Hi Anemone14 I’ve just been prescribed 2.5 mg bisoprolol as I have lots of ectopic beats been offered an ablation for them but I want to try the meds first and also the waiting time at the minute for ablation is about 1 year ! I’m going to take mine at night and hopefully they will settle things down ! Good luck with yours I hope you do well on them

The cardio is talking about an ablation too but I don’t know when as I haven’t got any appointment at the moment. I didn’t realise there is such a long wait for it. It would be nice if the problems could settle down with the médecines. Wish you well, thank you for answering.

Fingers crossed I’m not sure I’m brave enough for ablation procedure going to give the tablets a go and then there going to do 24 hour ecg again if still high burden 10 per cent then I will have to go for it !

I was on Ramipril 2.5mg daily, I got light headed and it gradually went away; just lately increased to 5mg as a precaution and now occasionally get light headed again, I ignore it in the belief it will go away again as I get used to the dose.
