I have heart failure and on all the normal pills and I feel fine. My consultant says that I could have an ICD implant. At the same time says they are doing a trial in Southampton sponsored by BHF where they want you to join and you will be given either at ICD or a Loop Recorder, this is totally random. I wondered if it makes any difference for Travel Insurance which one I get? I have tried to get answers for Insurer but they are not very helpful are there any insurers recommended where you can get a satisfactory answer?

travel insurance
Hi Rnba
If you've been using the online travel insurers or market comparison sites unfortunately their staff are not trained in insurance, they have a script they need to adhere to and anything outside that script is a automatic no no. I would try & find a local broker that specialises in travel insurance.
My husband has severe HF and he has an ICD fitted. ICD's are usually fitted if your heart has a problem with it's electrics or if your EF is below 35 & not really expected to improve.
I've heard some good reports about Southampton & their cardiology. Do you know what the trial is about? When my husband was invited to take part in a trial he was sent a very detailed letter about it. I would contact Southampton hospital or the BHF nurses in this group as they will be able to advise the implications of having one or the other. I don't know anything about loop recorder's so can't help there but having an ICD has never been an issue with travel insurance for my husband.
Good luck
