Lanzoprazole
Hello
Not sure what other tablets you are taking as Bisoprolol , and Ticagrelor can cause in some people breathlessness but I have not come across lansoprazole having this as a side effect
I would speak with your Doctor or pharmacist and see if they can see any of the medications you take that might be the cause of you feeling this way
Let us know how you get on x
Hi there I was told by my cardiac nurse that ticagrelor causes breathlessness. I had a heart attack in February and early on first 6 weeks I found I was having breathlessness but since it has disappeared.
I did have other side effects from lansaprazole and no.longer take it. Speak to your cardiac nurse for advice.
Thank you for your reply, Im not on Ticagrelor so I can rule that out I wasnt breathless till the gave me lanzoprazole thats why I was enquiring about it
Been on it for years now and never had any problems. However, twice it has happened that the pharmacist issued it and despite taking it I had acid reflux. Now this will sound odd as they are or should be the same no matter who makes them. But, I switched to a different brand and straight away it was working again. This was as recent as a week ago.
Hi, as has been said I don't think Lansoprazole is the culprit for breathlessness (although it did cause me awful "digestive issues" so that has been replaced by Famotidine which seems fine). The breathlessness in my case (according to cardio rehab nurse) is probably Ticagrelor so if you are on that it might be worth checking, I'm currently in the process of having it swapped to Clopidogrel . Good luck in getting rid of the very unpleasant breathlessness.
Thank you for your reply, Im not on Ticagrelor, but everytime I stop the lanzoprazole for a couple of days my breathing improves
no just diarrhea with me . Had to switch to something else
Try to ween yourself of any PPIs they are ok short term , a lot of evidence is now pointing to a link between dementia and long term use of PPIs.
Check all your meds here on Drugs.com… I am including a link to the interactions checker. I use it all the time. drugs.com/drug_interactions... It is just a check, everybody’s system is a little different.
You should contact your pharmacist - they are truly the experts. I am allergic to Protonix, another PPI like Lansoprazole. Protonix is produced with povidone iodine. My pharmacist identified it and called me…because it was on file that I am sensitive to Iodine. Saved me from a really bad rash and other things. All the best!
Thank you
Keep us posted. I can completely relate. I am hypersensitive to many medications - it isn’t fun. I was hospitalized twice two months ago for vasospasms and given Amlodipine. It helped the chest pain but the side effects are overwhelming. I am on everything there is for angina, this was the last medication not tried. I stopped taking it. Life is precious and far too short to live with depressing side effects. We are worthy of so much better. I hope you feel like your own self soonest…the pharmacist should have a great recommendation for you. 🙏❤️🕊️
Breathlessness is part and parcel of being a "Hearty". I would'nt worry about it too much, as ist tends to fade away with time as your meds kick in.
Have you been on Lanzoprozole for 2 years! Any way its only to control stomach acid, I don't think that's the culprit. You need to research your other meds and see which one is the likely suspect, confirm it with your pharmacist/ GP and see what happens. Let me know what does happen.
Lots of people are on PPIs long term with no ill effects and its essential to control GERD and hiatus hernia which I have. Well over 30 yrs now and no side effects or problems whatsoever.
Yes I have been on lansoprazole for over two years i didnt suffer from heartburn it was prescribed because Im on 5 other medications, which I have no problem with they prescribe it to protect the stomach thats what I was told
I was prescribed a PPI too. But I have been aiming for medication reductions at all stages. At one stage I had to increase my dosage to sort out some stomach pains and breathlessness, but months down the line I have gradually reduced it back, presently to none, as I have been able to stop other meds as well. So far so good, I can always return back to them if I need to (some meds).
I must throw in a disclaimer right here, my decision is based on my own research and only works for me after having made lifestyle changes and weight changes (reduced by 0.5kg) and maintaining, plus consulting GP/pharmacist.
