Hello everyone, I’ve recently started playing golf again following my HA last September. I’m struggling with my energy levels two thirds of the way round. I exercise nearly every day by walking. I was wondering if I could take those energy gels that you see runners and footballers take to boost their energy. Has anyone tried these before and did it help improve your energy levels?
Energy gels.: Hello everyone, I’ve... - British Heart Fou...
Energy gels.
I wouldn't suggest having energy gels, depending on the ingredients they can cause indigestion, sugar spikes and cardiac symptoms for many because they often contain a higher dose of sodium that may be too much for you.
I think you body is probably getting tired because you are only just building up your strength. Golf is surprisingly strenuous in the movement of the body as well as all of the walking. You might be better building up from 9 holes and when that gets easy increase to the full round.
If you really can't wait though you could use a golf trolley for part of the course. Or do to sets of 9 holes but ask you friends if you can all have a break in the clubhouse in the middle . Or see if one of your friends will pull your golf bag as well as tugging heavy clubs about can add to the strain.
Keep a bottle of water with you at all times playing golf or on long walks and drink regularly as you go.
To keep up your energy as you go have some healthy snacks with you instead to help boost your energy and keep your electrolytes in balance.
Unsalted Nuts are a good option , so are green apples , a small banana, some dried fruit , grapes, or oat biscuits or take a homemade smoothie with you in a flask .....just beware that your friends don't start stealing them.
