I’m on 20mg of riveroxaban. I’m suffering with arthritis and ligament pain in back and hip. GP is referring me to orthopaedics but has suggested brufen gel. I asked if it was okay with riveroxaban and he said yes intermittently. Does anyone here on blood thinners use brufen gel?

brufen gel and riveroxaban
Go carefully with anything that contains ibuprofen. It can induce stomach bleeds. Personally I avoid it.
I've been using ibuprofen gel for a few years now for arthritis pain. Last year I had a mild heart attack and have been put on blood thinners for 12 months. I haven't noticed any bad effects but I am also on Lansoprazole because of the amount of medications that I'm taking atm. Hopefully I should be coming off my heart meds next month but have been advised to take another medication after that which I think is Rivaroxaban due to my age (76). I don't have ibuprofen tablets as I also have CKD.
Yes its only the tablets that can cause a problem
The gel is fine in specific areas due to the way its absorbed. I use for arthritis in hips and on 2 blood thinners
I'm on rivaroxaban and have a lot of joint issues with arthritis and cslcium build up. I prefer to use Ibuprofen spray, not as stfong but for me twice as effective. I do still use the gel on the worst days of a flare up. You absorb far less applying it to the skin than taking it orally.
very occasionally I too use the gel. I find it does help with the pain of arthritis but I would not use it for too long over larger areas. I am on Apixaban now 2.5mg x 2 due to my age and being under 8stone.
thank you for your replies. I didn’t know you could get it in a spray form. I’ll get some and limit it’s use to when I’m climbing the walls with it.
we use Glucosamine & Magnesium Gel which is effective and rapid relief. Also my wife uses Devil's Claw - the herb or cream which she finds very effective. You might want to check out what foods are bad for arthritis (ie Potatoes, Tomatoes, and all from the 'deadly nightshade family')
