ASD Device Closure - Take 2 on Friday

Hi All,

So I am back at the Brompton on Friday for another attempt at the ASD closure. This time with two Drs and it turns out, two holes in the heart. After the failed attempt at the end of March, I was sent for an MRI which showed I have another hole which wasn’t picked up on the TOE - that was a bit of a shock! Anyway they are going to retry the surgery on Friday and hopefully will be able to sort me out - this time they think they will puncture another hole in the heart, so a more complicated procedure, but hopefully will all work out. Thanks again for your messages and support to my other posts. I’ll update you on how it all goes.

Gosh - that sounds super stressful!! So sorry to hear the first procedure didn’t work but hopefully they now know what they are dealing with and it should be easier this time!! Sending all the good wishes! ❤️

Hi Emma so sorry to hear that you have further complications. Sending you good luck for your procedure and hopefully they can sort you out this time. I have just rang the freeman about my procedure and possibly looking at June/July. Take care and let us know how it goes.

Best wishes

Hi Jill

So sorry I missed this somehow. It all went really well thank you. The managed to close the larger hole without having to puncture another hole. They couldn’t close the smaller hole due to the position but will hopefully be ok to leave that one. I had no pain at all and felt good apart from a little tired! I’ve felt really good and have been walking every day since and just making sure I’m not lifting. Could drive again after a week and I am starting back with excercise (building up gradually) this week. Honestly feel like nothing has been done, which is pretty amazing! Let me know when you get your date x

Hi Emma so pleased everything went well for you and you are feeling well. Sounds like you have recovered well and enjoying getting back to exercise. Still not heard anything about a date. Will let you know when I hear anything. Take care xx

Hi Emma I got a phone call today with a date for my procedure. The 28th May so only two weeks. I am pleased to have the date but a little worried. But from what you have told me it’s all pretty straightforward.

Did you stay overnight? Are you having to take warfarin for a period of time? If you could just give me an idea of how the day went and what they did, did you stay overnight, that would be great. Hope you don’t mind me asking so many questions. Many thanks Jill x

Hi Jill

I was in for just one night, it was a very easy surgery with no pain at all, nothing in the incision site, i didn’t need any pain relief at anytime. They kept me in overnight as they needed to check the position of the device on the echo, then I was allowed home straight after that. No driving for 1 week and just walking and then you can start building up excercise again.

Wishing you all the best for your procedure.

Hi Emma thank you so much. So pleased it all went well for you. Do you have to take any medication?

You have made me feel so much better about it, thank you. Have you found you are feeling better in yourself as well?

Take care of yourself and I will let you know how mine goes.
