Wish me luck, I'm having my ASD closed next week. I apparently have had my "hole in the heart " since I was born but have done mountain Rescue etc! It did not start to bother me until I was 69!

Hello
I wish you all the luck in the world and what a story that you have got to 69 till it started to bother you
But with the wonderful skills these surgeons have they can fix this
I know you are going to be ok and I am so looking forward to your post when you are telling us how your recovery is going x
Thanks. Yes, luckily they can do it via my groin. The bit they use is hand woven from titanium! My husband says it will double my value Hopefully just an overnight stay as I live to far away from the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital.
Hello
It is amazing what they can do and how they do it
You only have to maybe stay overnight to sounds good to me
Bless your husband that is such a lovely thing to say and he is so right x
Dear Digger0
Good luck with it all, will be fascinated to hear about it all in your next post. I think that its amazing that they can do this work like they do.
Woven Titanium! Whatever next !
Please take care
I'll update you after wards!
Hello Digger.I had this done at 72.I had travelled the world, had a baby and nobody had deteched a hole in my heart....probably from birth. Mine was fixed as they intend to do yours. i was able to go home the same evening and bounced out of bed the next day full of beans!I had a sedation with some morphine top up . As a very timid medical candidate I must say it was relatively undramatic. All the very best .
My 28 year old son had to have surgery in May to repair a leaky mitral valve. When asked how the procedure went, the nurse replied that they had also repaired the hole in the heart. 'What???' was my reply!
All the best to you.
It's surprising how little problems the holes can cause - until you get to nearly 70! How's your son doing now? Well I hope.
Hi Digger wish you all the best for your procedure. We are of a similar age and problem but Ive been waiting nearly 2 years to have my ASD closed at St Thomas's in London.
Like you Ive been told that they will go through the groin and like others I would be interested to learn how it all went and what the recovery is like.
Once again good luck
I have been waiting since March 2020 as well, as I had my TOE done on 13 March. I am Under the Liverpool Heart and Chest hospital as that is the ACHD base for the north west. I had my cardiac catherisation in Feb this year to make sure the pressures were ok and that my arteries were fine as well. I gather that the recovery should be fine as I don't have any other co-morbidities. I'll let you know how I get on!
Good luck with with your surgery. I have a PFO and atrial aneurysm only found in a routine echo when I was 77. My cardiologist said he wouldn’t repair it unless I wanted to go scuba diving. Hellooooo…..? 🤣 I don’t know if it gave me any problems because I have had chest pain and shortness of breath going up stairs since at least my teenage years. I’ve also been diagnosed with coronary microvascular disease, so either could have caused my symptoms.
Hi folks, back yesterday form an overnight stay in the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital where they repaired my hole in my heart! They had to use 2 devices as I had strings across it! One was 10mm diameter and the other 19mm diameter! A couple of days rest then I can get going. I'm feeling great!
