Feeling spaced out after ASD closure

hi all

I posted recently about being nervous about having a keyhole procedure to close a hole in my heart. Delighted to report I had the procedure just over a week ago - all went well and I was very well looked after!

The problem now is I seem to have been left with a continual feeling of being totally spaced out! I’m getting a lot of headaches and generally feel a bit away with the fairies!!! I’ve not felt comfortable to drive and am struggling to focus at work.

Was wondering if anyone had experienced anything similar or had any words of advice?

Thank you!

Thanks for the reply! I was told I should take a week off work but should be back to normal by then. I know I do need to recognise it was a significant procedure and everyone’s recovery will be different but it just feels so frustrating to be feeling so out of it!

Yeah I cant imagine how you must feel have you mentioned to your cardiologist how you have been feeling x

Have you been on meds since that may be affecting you, or after effect of any anaesthetic you had ??Wish you well

It can take some time to get over the effects of the anaesthetic after an operation as l have experienced. Also, if you are taking a new medication that would also take time to get used to. It is early days, so don’t expect too much of yourself at this stage. As someone once said to me “You are not in a race”. Glad your op went ok and now you can look forward to the future.
