I’ve recently found my cat run over and was so upset I developed high blood pressure 180/96. I have been out on medication and have had ecg znd echo cardio gram. I have slight chest pain though and am worried it is something more serious. Anyone else experiencing this. I also suffer with anxiety.

Hello
I am so sorry to read you lost your cat animals are part of a family and you must be feeling so distressed losing him/her
Your BP did go up but hopefully the medications you have been put on will help that come down
You suffer with anxiety and so do I and that can cause us to focus on any feelings even when they may be nothing at all
But if they get worse you need to phone 111 or go to A&E but that is if anything changes and if it doesn't then I would make an appointment with your Doctor and go and tell them what you keep feeling let them check you over and give you the all clear for your peace of mind
Let us know how you get on x
that is a horribly high BP. Some years ago, I started on a serious effort to get BP reasonable, which has succeeded. I use relaxation techniques and I go to relaxation class once a month.
However the loss of your cat will put a dent in your efforts but that doesn’t mean you stop trying.
You might guess from my name that I adore my cat. I don’t know how I would cope if he dies. And I don’t know if I could adopt to reduce the hurt. On balance I think it would be right for you to adopt a new cat. And that might take the edge off your BP.
Best wishes
Sooty
It is so hard to lose them and doubly difficult when they are so young. It's a mourning process, just like when you lose a much loved human. I've had many cats over the years, but the one I found hardest to lose was Ranger. He came to me as an outdoor cat, but didn't remain that way. He gradually trusted me more and more, and I felt so privileged, that he gave me such trust and love.
As BeKind says, it will put a dent in your efforts, but keep trying, and allow yourself to grieve, bittling it uo won't help.
I'm not surprised your BP has risen after such a horrible event but I would expect it to be only temporary and to go down again once things have calmed down. When I lost my dog completely unexpectedly my BP shot up for several weeks. (She'd only gone to the vet for a minor operation and had a massive heart attack while waiting.)
loss is hard to bear, isn’t it!
As far as your health goes, have a look at the website of the specialist charity Blood Pressure UK. When I was first diagnosed with high blood pressure (just a touch higher than yours!) the charity had just started and I found it very helpful.
I am very sorry to hear that. The loss of a pet must have been very devastating; I hope you can feel better soon.
Also, if time permits, would it be okay if you or anyone here would fill out this survey. It's for a statistics class project that would help with understanding hypertension in people, young and old.
Anyways, thank you very much for your time. Much appreciated!
