Been having fast heart rate since Nov 23. Cardio put me on 5mg bisoprolol. Was controlled but now tachycardia again. No doc to talk to. Has anyone had this problem and been increased to 7.5 and had any issues with that. Thanks

Hi Tattyh... my sister has been put on Bisoprolol and has just this week increased to 7.5mg..so far with very little help to her heart rate. Going to have to ring the GP to see about increasing again. Everyone reacts differently to drugs especially as we get older so I would chat to your doctor. Good luck.

Have you tried the BHF nurses chat line ? Closed over weekend I think but very helpful when you can contact them. You could also try your pharmacist for advice?

How have you tried to contact your doctor , I know I have to do a media assault on my GP surgery , online submissions , I follow up with an email to reception and a phone call is really last resort. I add on my submissions and emails “ please add to my record for audit and any future action I may take”. Then I have info recorded for later use. Keep trying with your GP, don’t give in.

I’m on 7.5mg f Bisoprolol now, having started on 2.5, 18 months ago. My heart rate was all over the place, ranging from as low as 30 up to 175 and then pausing for several seconds to replace itself (which it mostly couldn’t).. The consequence of this was that I would black out. Since being on the higher dose I have had no blackouts. It took a while to adjust to the higher dose and I do feel tired much of the time but at least I’m more stable.

Hi, Tattyh not sure I can help but my cardiologist is very relaxed about my dosage. I get episodes of tachycardia and increase my bisoprolol. Then reduce it as necessary. Can you telephone your cardiac nurse for advice.

I have varied my dosage from 1.25mg to 7.5mg

hello I started on 2.5mg bisoprolol after heart attack in October, I’m now on 15mg and it’s near enough settled down now.

Keep having the bisoprolol increased when symptoms come back as your body adjusts.

It’s not nice unti your medication gets dialled in properly

Hope this helps 👍

Hiya, I have been diagnosed with moderate heart failure and I keep getting some episodes of my heart racing. I have been taking bisoprolol since September and the team have been slowly increasing it. At first my heart wasn’t racing but it has now started again in the last three weeks. I have just had my bisoprolol increased to 10mg a day but now I feel very exhausted and a little breathless. Luckily I see my cardiologist this week so will ask for further information. I have had a heart monitor which does show I can be tachy at times but my heart racing wakes me in the night and it is quite a scary experience and feeling. It doesn’t last long and self terminates, so not sure if I have something further going on with my heart. I felt fine on 7.5mg of bisoprolol but I obviously feel the difference with the 10mg as I am more tired. It is a trial and error for me with the different medications as I suffer side effects. Hope this helps and try to speak to your GP
