No it's not palpitations at all. Palpitations are missed beats. |What you hear at night is blood flowing; quite normal. The more you think about it the more you will hear it. Move your head slightly on the pillow and you won't hear it.
Thank you. I'm going to put ear drops in tonight in case I have wax
I very much doubt it's wax. I often hear my blood wooshing through my ears. Just move so you're not lying on that ear but drops shouldn't harm.
Hi Bishop1, palpations are not very nice but they won't do you any harm. Since my Carvedilol tablets were increased in strength I suffer but only when in bed, I'm not aware of them during the day probably because of being active. If you have a cardiac nurse you should ask about the whooshing noise or speak to your gp. Keep well.
Thanks. I'm going to put ear drops in tonight in case of ear wax
Some people can get tinnitus or whooshing sounds in the ears while exercising as the circulation increases to help with the activity. Some people can occasionally hear the sound of their chest moving as they breath a little harder , especially if they are taking more notice of physical sensations if they've had a recent illness or have recently had palpitations or a new diagnosis and their a bit more nervous about something happening again when they exercise.
If you aren't feeling it in your chest or feeling breathless , having palpitations or other symptoms this can be just normal and harmless. Sometimes we need to desensitize ourselves from certain normal sounds or little movements in the body especially if we have become more conscious of them after being ill.
Having your ears checked or using some drops if you think you you might have wax is a good idea.
Having a drink of water before physical activity and taking a bottle to drink on your walk us also helpful and important as sometimes we can get sounds from our chest if we are a little dehydrated or our chest is dry.
Hope things improve soon , Bee
Your heart will always increase with exercise and return to normal after, palpitations can stay, mine made me feel sick and dizzy, you can always feel pulse in ears when lying on them, just move and reposition head

I had jaundice in 2017 due to 2 tablets I had been on since 1992. Jaundice is awful and wouldn't wish it on anyone. But it did leave me hearing my heart beat in my left ear. I woke one morning and heard a thumping sound. Then realised it was in my ear. Still got it so I know when I am having palpitations as I can hear them and my missing heart beats. Never feel them in my chest.
From the moment I wake until I go to sleep had thump thump then a gap back to thump and but am used to it . To be honest if I stopped hearing it I would think I was dieing 😁. It's just another odd thing my body does. It has effected my hearing but am not deaf in that ear. A hearing aid would only make the thumping louder .
Just learnt to live with it. At least I know my heart is still working.
Pulsatile tinnitus needs checking out as to the cause.
I suggest a GP appointment. I thought I had tinnitus for about a year - ignored it. Turned out the sound I could hear was heart/bp related. Don’t ignore it as I did. It might be nothing but let a professional tell you that!
How are you feeling now. No problems last nightI also reduced the amount of tea I drink in the course of the day
Take care
I’m sure you won’t have the same issues as me. I’m six weeks post OHS - I had heart failure. Put my symptoms down to being a menopausal busy woman whose Dad had recently died. It was found in my routine age 50 health check. I’m certain yours won’t be as serious but in hindsight I should have had it checked out earlier.
My mum had similar issues and hers stopped by cutting out caffeine and chocolate.
I’d like to know how you get on. X
It could very well be that your spine in the cervical area is misaligned and your posture might need some correction which is why moving your head at night on your pillow would alleviate the whooshing sound. Check with your doctor to see if physiotherapy would help. In the meantime make sure your chin is up and your shoulders are held back. That advice can certainly do no harm but may actually help. I've learned this through my own physio treatment and X-rays that show nerve impingement in my C6, C7 neck area so I have to continually remind myself to sit, stand up straight or I start have visual / audio disturbances.
I’m glad you asked about this, Iv been meaning to ask this myself. I thought it was my ear as well, but having my ear’s cleared by suction (much better then syringe) didn’t help at all. I also thought it was because my BP was up , but it never was. Iv had it about I year now and it’s mainly at night , but as some have said if I move position I don’t notice it . Hope you find the source of years , it can be annoying.
Youve probably got a blockage in eustation tube. Try an antihistamine and maybe a spray. Maybe a type of tinnatis though. Been through this.
I went to the surgery with an army trudging through snow, L, R, L, R (in my ears). The GP who saw me said it was sometimes a symptom of anaemia and sent me off for blood tests. I am so grateful for the knowledge and great intuition of that GP. Sadly, he retired.
