Hi - this is the first time I have ever joined a forum so I am a complete novice at this!
After 62 happy and healthy years on this planet, 2 weeks ago I suffered the shock of my entire life. I woke up in the morning after a good nights rest and said to my husband that I felt a bad heartburn or indigestion. Thinking nothing of it I went for my morning routine and felt progressively worse.
Long story short, within half an hour paramedics were at the foot of my bed telling me I was having a heart attack. I am so grateful to our NHS, they whisked me directly to the nearest hospital, not via A&E but directly to CCU and into the Cath lab as an emergency. 2 hours after waking I was undergoing Angioplasty and had 2 stents inserted into my heart.
Thank goodness I am here to tell the tale - the whole procedure was astonishing and that’s down to the fantastic research and progress in medical science in large part attributable to BHF. I can’t say it hurt at any point but it was certainly surreal - I had this feeling that it could not be happening to me!
I thought I was fairly fit and healthy, walking 1 hour a day, twice a week yoga, swimming and generally active with my 4 grandchildren. We eat a good diet, no takeaways, no alcohol and I gave up smoking more than 20 years ago.
There is unfortunately a strong family history of heart problems and while I would ideally like to know what caused this problem I guess I will never be sure.
The fact is I have resolved to fully recover, enjoy everyday to the absolute max and live my life more aware of what my body is telling me.
