About 2 weeks ago I had some blood tests at the GP surgery , received a text telling me I was pre diabetic and offering me to join a program to make health choices etc. I was shocked, so was my GP. She went through my history, current rehab, nutrition etc and thought the result was a false positive. She arranged a second test. Result came back last Wednesday and I was booked in to see her. False positive apparently 🙌🏻.
She was absolutely beaming , I can’t tell you how relieved I was . My result came back normal. We agreed to do another test in about 10 weeks to make sure . However, she mentioned that my uric acid level was above normal indicating gout! I don’t have any typical gout symptoms, anyone else in a similar situation ? On any medication for it ? I’ve got been prescribed anything, not sure if she forgot because we discussed going back on a different statin , 40mg Pravastatin instead of the artovastatin 80mg. Only just started the Pravastatin.

my GP let’s me keep a stock of tablets to combat a gout flare. I prefer that to having yet another tablet to take. Works for me. I get gout about every two years. I prefer not to take daily gout prevention.
I am also pre diabetic. I am on the NHS course for prediabetics. It’s very low key. Helps to remind me to eat better and to exercise a bit more. I am slightly overweight, perhaps need to shed just 5lbs. What is probably a good thing is that it is preventing me gaining more weight.
Historically, it would be laughable for me to need the course. I have been underweight for years, but my activity has slipped. There is lots to learn from on the course. First thing was I eat too much fruit. Too much !? I had stopped chocolate bars etc and eat fruit in lieu.
Anyway, I am pleased your blood test was wrong and you aren’t yet prediabetic.
Type 2 diabetes happens when your body is releasing too much insulin to deal with the sugar, aka carbohydrates, in your diet. Switching chocolate for fruit does not matter they both require insulin to deal with the sugar. It is a function insulin managing the sugar in the blood. It is a false assumption that if you are thin you can't have type 2. If your diet has too much sugar, no matter the source, then you will be releasing to much insulin and over time you will have to release more and more to deal with the same diet and eventually it stops working as well and your blood sugar will remain high.
Thanks for the info. It will help me trying to understand the confusing (to me) aims of the diabetes course. So far I have changed my breakfasts to porridge 4days a week and reduced chocolate snacks. I will next work on the complex physio being suggested. I really do not want diabetes.

There is a link between diabetes and statins, especially in women. Diabetes type 2 is insulin resistance caused by decades of consuming a diet high in carbohydrates. There is a lot you can learn on line about carbohydrates, insulin and their impact on health and how to manage blood sugar with diet.
After I read your first post I had a feeling this second test would be fine
My Husband is slim , active you name it and once his sugars came back pre diabetic we all were in shock when it did
He went back a few weeks later and they were the opposite Dr said his sugars if anything were bordering on been a bit to low since then every time he goes and has it done they have been in the Doctors words the best blood sugars she has seen so it shows that for whatever reason you can get a false reading but to go back again and get them checked and to be honest as well they were ready to send hubby on that Diabetic course just with that one false reading !
