Hi, l had my yearly health check and everything was fine apart from the fact that my ALT liver enzyme was elevated. l was informed that l would need a scan if the next test result also showed an elevated ALT result.l asked what l could do to help myself,l was told to continue as normal and my doctor was happy for me to have a glass of wine if l wanted. , any thoughts?

I’d say it’s always worth looking at your diet to see whether you can tweak it to support whatever isn’t quite right. There’s an area in the BHF site about diet, and also Blood Pressure UK.

This sounds similar to me x my liver enzymes are elevated normal Alt level is 0-33 and mine was 75 plus I have abdominal pain and bloating and nauseated ( with out being sick thank goodness) I went to discuss my blood test results and was referred for an urgent liver scan which I was supposed to have last month but I'm having it on the 10th now x I really hope your levels improve and you don't get any symptoms like I have. Life is really hard for me at the moment I'm constantly in pain 💔. Wish you all the best x

Hi,thank you for your reply,it is awful that you are feeling so ill. Are there different scales for ALT results? My ALT was 124 in January and my next test is in April and my doctor expects the level to have improved. My partner's ALT was 87 and he does not have to have another test,we both feel ok.l have read horror stories on the internet about raised ALT levels, but we have a good doctor that we trust.l hope that when you have your scan on 10th you will find the answers to your issue and have the problem resolved.Again thank you for your reply.Take care.

Hi, my ALT was low 60s at last blood test and might need further screening etc if the next blood test isn't better (later this month). Alcohol as well affects it, but I'm well within guidance levels. Also, think possibly related to taking statins?

Hi thank you for your reply, yes l have read that there are several factors that can have an impact on ALT levels.Diet, exercise, alcohol and medication seem to be the main ones.My doctor did not ask me to change my lifestyle, but l am briskley walking 4 miles a day, have improved my diet and have cut down on my alcohol intake,so hopefully the next blood test will show a change in the right dirrection.
