hi ! I am 23 (F) and I have svt attacks since I was 12 , maybe 3-4 a year , sometimes less , sometimes more , my conditions never worsened it was the same . 3 months ago I decided to go see a cardiologist , she did an ecg and EKG , she found out I have PVCs too , I was put on a holter monitor , and it was below 1% . She put me on beta blockers , bisoprolol 2,5 mg after 2 weeks I started to feel really really dizzy , I couldn’t breath properly and I could feel every single PVCs , which I haven’t felt before , my svt episodes started getting worse , since than I had several every week , so I tappered it off to 1,25 mg the breathlessness dissapeard I’m still a bit dizzy I can still feel the PVCs and still my svt episodes come back every week 2-3 times . Now 3 months later , I’m trying to wean off completely bisoprolol , I take 0,6 mg . My question is could my condition worsened because of bisoprolol ? Because for like 11 years i got max 3 episodes a year , I remember two weeks after bbisoprolol I started to have a lot of svt attacks . I got since 2012 like the same amount of attacks as I got in 3 months on beta blockers . Is this possible ? Please help me

Hi , sorry that can’t relate to your condition , I had nstemi heart attack and quadruple bypass last July . I was on 3.75mg bisoprolol Ali g with other meds . The bisoprolol absolutely made feel like a space cadet at various times of the day , totally zombied. I had it reduced to 1.25mg and it was a lot better for me. Have a chat with your consultant/GP or even the BHF online nurse ? I hope you find a way forward 👍🏻👍🏻

I had to come off Bisoprorol as it made my symptoms a lot worse. Beta blockers reduce your pulse, so if you have a low pulse to begin with it can slow it down too much. Very slow pulse means less oxygen being pumped round the body and this may lead to increased tiredness and chest pain (as in my case). I think you need to discuss this with your doctor and review your meds.

I have a high pulse so that’s not a problem , I don’t know

My PVCs worsened when I was on bisoprolol. Please talk to your cardiologist. If you don’t have symptoms from your PVCs, you may not need to be on medication at all. But ask them why they think you need to be on meds for such a small amount of PVCs.

Do you have a diagnosis for the underlying cause of your SVT?

I’m on 2.5mg Bisoprolol for SVT. I’ve been on it 6 years. I had lots of ectopics before being diagnosed with SVT. The beta blockers pretty much stopped the ectopics but over the last two years my SVT has got worse but apparently this is the case as you age and I’ve also just gone through the menopause so I think hormones have some impact. Make sure you eat regularly and keep well hydrated when taking beta blockers to keep your blood pressure steady. I’d talk to your doctor about reviewing medication. I’m on an SVT support group and many people say their SVT gets worse as they age or medication eventually doesn’t work. I’m now on the waiting list for an ablation.

My condition only got worse after taking bisoprolol , my condition was the same for 12 years , and 2 weeks after bisoprolol it changed

Medication can affect people differently. I would discuss it with your doctor and ask to try an alternative and see if there’s any improvement. Then you will know if it’s the drugs making things worse or your condition has changed.
