Myocarditis Chest Pain

For any people that have successfully recovered from myocarditis, how long did chest pains / general discomfort last for you? I was diagnosed over a month ago and I’m still experiencing chest pains on a regular basis. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

it depends if your heart was damaged as well. My myo resoloved and pains eased off about 2 months, but as I had suffered a heart event due to myo, it left a small area of thickening in my ventricular mid wall I had discomfort on and off for probably about 4 months I was also then diagnosed with micro vascular angina but I would say it really took about 9 - 10 months to recover my cardio fitness to be where it was before my perimyocarditis

i am sorry that you have this and that you seem not to have been given any info and advice after your diagnosis

this inflammation of your heart muscle can take quite a while to resolve, even with medication - it affects the way your heart muscle functions and reduces how effectively it pumps - this leaves you feeling fatigue and can cause chest pain, particularly if you are expecting your heart to do more than it can

initially most doctors recommend 6 weeks of rest with very gradual resumption of activity - no exercise for several months - you might find this helpful:

Hi Beachboy1, sorry you have had this awful virus. Please be reassured it is perfectly normal to get some chest pains esp as one month is very early days in the recovery process. Please REST lots and then REST some more!! Your heart has had an awful shock and like any muscle injury it needs time and rest to recover. Every case is different in severity and so definitive recovery periods are hard to predict but as a general rule of thumb 3-6months is often discussed.

Many of us here have learnt from experience that having a 'good day' and over doing it can lead to set backs. So please take very good care, listen to your heart, when its hurting its reminding you to REST!

A very restful few months will help your heart heal and make a really good recovery 👍🏽
