pacemaker vs bluetooth devices

I had a pacemaker fitted in October 2023

I had hearing aids fitted 24/1/2024 -(whole body in decline!)

I enquired re an app that could be applied to an iphone that would allow adjustments to the functions of the hearing aids vis volume/sound loop etc and so negating the need to adjust the fiddly buttons on the device behind the ear.

The audiologist did not know neither did his senior so they refused to set up that facility for me in case they incurred liability!

Apparently the app communicates with the hearing aids via Bluetooth.

Does any one have knowledge of any effect of Bluetooth on pacemakers?

I am currently avoiding hearing too much and enjoying heartbeats!

I don’t know the answer about pacemakers but the BTA might.

Whether or not your aids can be adjusted via an apple iPhone app depends on the make of your aids. If yours are NHS then I expect not!

My aids were expensive and obtained privately, and I have an app which I use to adjust things. I even make and receive phone calls through them.

My aids are NHS supplied and can be adjusted via ‘phone!( reason I wished to avail myself of the facility!

Have since learned from Pacing clinic that it would be safe to use the app.whilst having a pacemaker.I now need to learn how to use it!

Surprises me that the clinical audiologist did not have this information!

I have a pacemaker and used to work with electron microscopes that have large electromagnets as lenses, and I had no problems at all.

Modern pacemakers need quite a large magnetic field to affect them, so I doubt if bluetooth hearing aids would make any difference. If you are in doubt, however, you could try contacting your pacing clinic or your pacemaker manufacturer.

The pacing clinic technician contacted confirmed the level of magnetic field was very small and would have little/no effect on functioning of pacemaker.

Thank you for contribution and help
