hi there. Gosh, what a rotten Christmas for you all. I also have persistent AF that Bisoprolol, once I’m having a bad episode, won’t touch. My GP has always said you should go no higher than 10mgs a day and if your heart is still above 120bpm, go to hospital. My recent episode started Thursday, by Saturday I went to A&E and despite trying an amiodorone infusion which still didn’t work, I had a cardioversion this morning. Looking good so far although it is my 3rd one and so they don’t always last [my last one was 7 months ago). Please, if unsure, go to hospital as medicines don’t always sort things on their own. Keep us posted and good luck

That is an incredibly large dose to be taking daily, I can only assume that yours husbands heart rate is consistently too high and that at some point the Dr hopes it will fall. Have you read the list of side effects that Bisoprolol can cause as much of what you mentioned are listed there. Could this high dose be causing many of his symptoms? You both need some help and support along with an explanation what your GP is trying to achieve.

Thanks for your reply. He has only been on 15mg for a week. Feels much worse now. He had a cardio version about 18mnths ago and everything went really. No real problems, and no, he didn't have a high heart rate. It all kicked off the week before Christmas. So bad that he said if it's really horrendous again just get me to A&E. He has an appt tomorrow but it's only for HR and BP check ?????? Will just have to see what nurse says and ask to see a GP urgently. He is really struggling.

Must add that last week is the first time he has seen anybody at the surgery, despite requests for an appointment.

Hi Subo1610. I hope your husband had a positive experience at the surgery today. Did he talk to them about how he felt? I take my HR , BP daily and write down how l have been. I ended up showing the nurse my diary and she went and got the doctor immediately. I was taken off bisoprolol and felt much better, however l had hypotension which differs from your husband.

Thanks for asking. The GP was brilliant, unfortunately he has just been admitted to hospital and I am not allowed to sit with him ???? Just have to wait and see. Worst thing is, last admission he had a really bad time and ended up having night mates for weeks. When he's stressed he doesn't take anything in.
