I got the results from my Echo today and I have severe tricuspid regurgitation and was wondering if anyone could help with information. I have to wait to see a cardiologist but my doctor said that it might mean surgery. Would appreciate any information,
Many thanks

I have had severe Tricuspid regurg. for several years.I was told by surgeon that surgery is usually carried out if the docs. are doing other heart surgery. They will then do/consider tricuspid clips...not always successful...or so i was told. But lone tri. valve surgery is not usually attempted.I am 85 and in pretty good nick .I have meds. to control Afib. and some small doses of diuretics to keep my lungs and heart clear of any fluid that may be inclined to accumulate. Otherwise, no treat. for tricuspid valve.I walk daily and do some online exercises and generally run the house etc. so I would not worry about your tri. valve problem too much .
I have tricuspid regurgitation. Caused by my congenital heart issue. So I will be monitored on a regular basis. So we will have to see how I get on. It was all a bit of a shock for me. But I have no control over what I was born with. So you try to except. I am now on entresto and furosemide. To assist my heart. At present they will not be diving in to repair, its got me this far so it just needs a bit of tender loving care and a few tablets to assist.
Hi, thank you for your reply. I'm waiting to see my cardiologist so don't know what they will decide to do with me yet. Please keep in touch with your progress, wishing you all the very best x
You can read my bio on this forum which explains some of the story. But there you go these things come to test us. I hope that in next few years they do more research on the right side of the heart. My problem is a bit complexed. The most knowledgeable place is the mayo clinic, Rochester, America for my condition. We do have expertise in the UK, but being so rare there is not alot of knowledge about. Even though the condition of ebsteins anomoly was found in 1866. I have just got go along with what they tell me to do. I just hope that they can learn a little bit from my condition to help future generations. I will be going to Barts in London for a heart catheterization. To see what the pressures are in the atrium and ventrical and then into the lungs. Never really asked enough to understand why but I think I may be on other medication to assist the blood volume to get into the lungs. But unfortunately my tricuspid valve was positioned to low down and did not de laminate properly when it was formed. I always say that this all happened at day 35 while in the womb. Sad bloke really. Anyway got me to nearly 60 so we will have to see what this adventure brings.
Wow, sounds like you have a lot to contend with, thank you for telling me your story. This is all new to me and it sounds like I have a lot to learn. Wishing you well, let me know how you get on at Barts x
Hi Heather I had severe tricuspid valve regurgitation and my surgery was in June it was a repair to my valve rather than a replacement (lve already had an aortic valve replaced in 2019) my surgeon explained it was a OHS and not a Tavi procedure, this didn't bother me after already having my chest opened previously and it healed perfectly. If depends on your surgeon and what he/she decides. With mine l had 6/7 days in hospital 1st day in ICU day two on ward they like you up and sitting in a chair pretty quickly if your obs are all ok and your not in special measures, physio come and get you to walk a few steps each day gradually building up to stairs . Your monitored constantly. I had blood transfusions and was on oxygen due to low bloods etc.. hence why l was in hospital for 6/7 days my first surgery was 5 days. Your fellow roomates will all be in various stages of recovery and will keep your spirits up and give you advice about what you need or do so ask them 😉 . Staff at James Cook University Hospital absolutely marvellous people l hope your Hospital stay is brief and your recovery perfect . Any specific questions you want answered ask away . There is a forum on Facebook if your on social media you can get information from that . I wish you very best my dear .x
Hi, thank you so much for telling me your story and all of the information, it is really helpful for me and I'm sure for others too. It's comforting to know that I have someone that I can talk to, thank you and wishing you all the very best too x
Hi, my Echo also showed Tricuspid Regurgitation, when I saw the Cardiologist he sent me for an MRI. From what I’ve been told this is the Standard next step. Also, my MRI showed more detail than the Echo and is apparently more reliable than the echo.
I wish you well with the next step of diagnosis and that you are given more of a picture with what is going on.
