Mitral Valve Regurgitation & Tricuspid Regurgitation

Hi All,

New to the forum, so hello! I just wanted a little advice & reassurance really. I had cardiac ablation for WPW following an episode of SVT a few years ago and had no cardiac issues following that.

Recently I attended A&E twice with chest pain, bloods normal but ecg read non specific abnormality. I do suffer with health anxiety and have since the the svt episodes.

I decided to see a cardiologist privately as still having episodes of chest tightness and head pressure. Changes on ecg he feels are post ablation and now my norm however echo report shows mild to moderate mitral valve regurgitation and tricuspid valve regurgitation. The Dr didn’t think it was anything that needed urgent attention but repeat echo in 3-5 years time.

I have now got myself in a right mess, thinking all sorts. Feeling extremely worried and anxious about this. I’m just thinking the worst, the Dr didn’t put for 3-5 year repeat echos on the GP report or request them and he reported it as mild physiological, although the technician documented mild to moderate for the regurgitation.

Any advice would be great, I chat to my husband but he doesn’t understand how frightening the SVT episode was and having to have ablation done.

Thanks so much x

Hi. The fact its mild to moderate regurgitation makes me think they will just monitor you for the time being. I had severe mitral valve regurgitation at 40 years old, just had the valve repaired at 50 years old, so was monitored for 10 years before they intervened. My thoughts are that it's better to know you have a heart issue than not, look at it as we're the lucky ones.

It can be sorted.

Thank you Paul for the reassuring words. Hope you are keeping well after your surgery. You’re right about it’s best to know than not know. Will definitely try and look at it that way when I start worrying about it. Take care

I’m the same as Polenta - both valves mild and was told nothing needed until it becomes severe. It’s a common problem. Don’t stress.

my mitral valve causes me to have ectopics / pvcs it's part of the leaky valve thing that's why you get the abnormality as it tries to kick in extra beats here and there. And your right talking to people who haven't had an issue don't understand how it is. I've not seen a cardiologist since before covid because the state of the health service here and back then I was moderate to severe. I get breathlessness and all sorts of symptoms. You'll be sound just have to get over the symptoms and fears of what's going on but that takes years from experience.

Thank you for replying, it’s much appreciated. I feel more reassured now, suppose it’s normal to worry but just need to not let it take over my life worrying about it everyday. Hope you are keeping well and take care.
