Pacemaker safety alert.

I've heard that the pacemaker I had fitted nearly 4 years ago has received a safety alert on them and now I need a box/battery operation to replace it.Just wondering how others have recovered from a box change? Hopefully the leads will stay in place so hopefully recovery will be much quicker than the initial implant op.

I have googled it and the first thing that came up is a no win no fee solicitor and it got me wondering if anyone else has gone through this process?

Op tomorrow, hopefully.

Regards, Dan.

Hi Bigdan, I just had my 1st box change done on Nov 14th and I got to tell you it was a very easy procedure, got admitted at 7:30 am and was home by 11:30 am. Six days out and I have no pain, but still bruised in the area. I was stressed before hand but now know for the next one not to be. Take care.

Hi I had a box change up grade with a defibrillator added but my leads remained. The process was a lot easier and better than when I had the complete thing. Mine was 9 years old when it was changed, and that was 5 yrs ago. I don’t understand who alerted you, was it the device clinic or the device itself then the clinic confirmed?

I was contacted by the cardiology department that fitted it.

Think its a specific batch within a model which has been recalled. I've just been unlucky I had one. There was nothing wrong with mine but it was just better to be safe than sorry.

Yeah I understand. It’s just a few weeks back someone was talking about their partners device alarm going off. I think mine went off ages ago. There was a noise and it sounded like it was coming from me, I thought an alarm on my device, no way. I have a monitor and that’s what I would expect to go off. Months later when I had my clinic appointment I forgot to mention it and they didn’t mention anything either.

Hi, I'm not due a battery/box change for a couple of months just yet, but, I've had the leads changed previously. That took longer than the original device insertion, but, as far as I recall, recovery from the wound was just the same, so I expect recovery just the same this time around.

Given that it's a recall on the device, you may find that no win no fee solicitors will be interested, but, I'd surmise as part of a class action on behalf of multiple clients. It might be worth contacting one of them, although in my experience it takes a very long time and most tend to lead nowhere in the end.

Aye, my leads have stayed in luckily so its just recovering from a wound now rather than giving the leads time to bed in.I'll look into the solicitor thing over this next week. Not something I've ever considered before but this has had a big impact on work/life so.. still not sure though!
