Strange ringing in my ears?

Hi everyone hope your all keeping well. I noticed for a while now my back hurts sooo much when I'm lying down it passes after about 10 minutes but this time I had ringing in my ears and palpitations for 10 minutes aswell it may of lasted longer I don't know cause I fell asleep! Had bit of chest discomfort aswell just getting so weird? Does this sound familiar to anything anyone has experienced and what was the cause so I can avoid on the future?

Hi Yumz, These weird feelings do make you very anxious as l well know and don’t do anything for the anxiety we already have. I have had so much trouble with my ears this last year. I have had ringing, popping and all sorts of noises. They said it was a form of tinnitus. It has gone now. I honestly don’t know what all these weird feelings are but if they accompany any serious symptoms, or don’t go away then it’s the doctor. It does frighten you when it’s a strange feeling, so hope you soon feel better. Take care 🥰xxxx

Tinnitus can be pretty common when you lie down , especially if you are also having some palpitations. It can be part of your blood pressure readjusting to the change in position. It can make you feel quite anxious if it hasn't happened before .

If it keeps happening make an appointment with the GP to discuss it and ask if they can compare your blood pressure between the results while sitting up and lying down.

Do you have a blood pressure monitor ( cuff type)?

It might be a good idea if you do to test your BP and heart rate when the palpitations and tinnitus happen when you lie down if it is happening more often and take the results to show your GP.

Some people can have high blood pressure , hypertension, when they lie down . It can be treated quite easily and if you are already on beta blockers the GP may give you advice about the dose and the best way to take it,

It can help if you sleep with your head and shoulders gradually raised up on supportive pillows , and if you have a drink of water just before lying down.

Thanks I wasn't aware that it could be blood pressure adjusting to lying down. This is the first time it's happened so I probably did something I don't normally do I'm not sure what it was though? I have to sleep with four pillows anyway and sometimes it hurts my neck so I have to have 3 which is too flat for me, I have had blood pressure tested by GP when u sit down and when I stand up but never when I ly down and sit up I will try and see if it makes a difference tomorrow when I wake up. I haven't had any results from my cardiologist yet I have appointment on 21st. X

sometime having the pillows ( or something else) under the head end of your mattress, to lift it, is a more comfortable way of lifting your head and shoulders - but it's difficult if you share a double bed with someone else! a single mattress-topper with the head end lifted would work on a shared double

Sorry to hear of yr ongoing problemsIve lived with tinnitus for many many years, worse at night, maybe mines related to the heart condition I never knew I had

Yeah I think that's what it's to do with, before I was on verapamil I could here my heart beat in my ear every night and for ages I thought that was normal but last night was different it was a constant ringing while I was laying on my left side? I'll avoid lying on my left side if it happens again. So annoying. X

Ive been able to fully hear my heart beats and when i took certaun meds it lessened the sound andbin particular ativan....paxil....took it completely away!!!! But im on neither of those meds anymore and atuvan is not a drug one wants to get used to tak8ng can be hard to get off of its a benzo...my beta blocker coreg slows my heart rate way down on down to 58.....but my bp is still too high so i dont know what to think of that im a non smoker no drinking but i do have two diabetes

yumz, there is a forum here on Health Unlocked for tinnitus. You might like to have a read of some of the posts there and see what tinnitus sufferers do to help themselves.

The website of the charity Tinnitus UK is very helpful and informative. Tinnitus itself is very very common and my belief is that most people cope with it fairly easily though it must be disconcerting to have a new loud noise in your ears/head.

I used to get out of bed half asleep looking for water running etc then realise that it was in my ears. Mainly went after I was put on my heart medication.

Haven’t been able to lie on my left side without pain since about April. Hoping when I eventually get my op that will go.

I can't lye on my back as it's too painful due to lower disc degeneration and scoliosis, if I do turning over is so painful. I sometimes get the ringing in my ears but lately it's been like an electric type sound the sort of sound today a radio or tv wasn't connected properly, to the point I've even been getting up to find anything it could be but nothing I can find. Also like you the beats of my heart very loud which is now driving me mad and I can hear the prolonged t wave in it. To add to that a really weird sensation of something in my bed. I've even gone to the expense of buying a new mattress three months ago. Did all the usual checks for anything nasty disinfected everything in bed and room nothing in fact my old mattress still looked like new when they took it away. Naturally all the news about bed bugs really upped my anxiety .I have an appointment with my GP next week and I'm going to ask if it could be any of my medication all this only started after the increase in my blood pressure medication three months ago. As soon as I get into bed the muscles in my legs start twitching like mad and I get a strange vibrating sensation in my chest.

Hope I don't sound completely nuts!

You definitely don't sound nuts, you sound like somone who is suffering at the moment you poor thing. Well it didn't happen again but I did wake up to a nose bleed haven't had one in ages so weird. Because my blood is very thick and it was still running down my nose I started worrying but it was probably because I was lying down it was running down my nose it still bleeding but so thick so it's not bleeding bad it's weird just weird things keep happening to me lol.

Oh dear I have never had a nose bleed till a couple of months ago, so strange but I put it down to Clopidrogel.My sister and friends definitely think my bed problem is to do with my medication and as I can't see it find anything to the contrary I'm kind of agreeing with them.

Problem with my right ear isn't tinnitus - the only way I can describe itis that it feels like an insect crawling around in my ear! I discovered that if I open my mouth just slightly, it goes away. I have had some really weird feelings at times in my chest area. I think I've definitely had panic attacks as, apart from having a heart attack this year, last year I had a brain clot! Real shock as I only ever had 21 days off sick in a career if 30 years. I wish everyone well whatever you have suffered.

Look into aged garlic capsules from kayolic .....then nattokinasse capsules 4000 iu a day

I’m really sorry to hear that you are having these strange symptoms right now. It is very scary not knowing what is going on with our health.

I don’t know about what you are experiencing, but I have been dealing with loud, constant tininitis in my ears since 2020. It never goes away, and I have seen an ENT doctor about this over the last year. I had my hearing tested and ears cleaned, but nothing has helped.

Anyway, I hope that you are able to get this sorted soon! Best wishes. ❤️

Thanks hun x it seems as i get older my health just gets worse and im only 26 lol. Ah sorry to hear you been having trouble with your health aswell? What did the ENT doctor say was the cause or they don't know?

They did not offer any reasons for the tinnitus nor any possible solutions. For me, it was like visiting a cardiologist. Lol 😂

I'm on verapamil 40mg x2, omeprozole 20mg and started sertraline 15mg on Friday.

Get it checked out by GP I used to get these symptoms before I had my valve replacement.I had to sleep propped up or on my left side.

ok thanks, I do have severe aortic regurgitation and moderate stenosis aswell so could it be that causing the tintus x

Yes it sounds like it could be,they might not even realise that those are symptoms.
