does anyone know what drug can be used as an alternative to aspirin ,I am on clopidogrel and aspirin but think he aspirin is upsetting my stomach I am already on lansoprozle to calm it down but think an alternative to aspirin would be the answer .
dual platelet therapy : does anyone... - British Heart Fou...
dual platelet therapy
I would stop the Lansoprozle and see if that sorts it first.
my husband is prescribed an aspirin that doesn’t irritate the stomach, it’s called “enteric” aspirin. Not to be confused with dispersible or anything else. I wouldn’t stop the lansoprazole without checking with your pharmacist or doc.
you can get alternative to lansoperzole like pantoprazole or omeprazole
yes you can be swapped over to one of the other PPI drugs I was on omaprezole ,that did not seem to work that well, I now take lansoprozle as I am on dual platelet therapy ,this was agree by heart consultant , and I have no problem with it.👍
I think if you are on Clopidogrel then omeprazole may interact and make the antiplatelet process less than optimal.
hi wischo
cardiologist prescribed my medication so think it must be okay and i am feeling well on it.
as long as i keep my BP under control everything else seems to work fine ,👍😀
I'm confused why you need Aspirin and Clopidogrel. Maybe a question for your cardiologist? If you need to stay on it are you taking the max dose of Lansoprozole? I take 30mg twice a day.
Hope all works out for you.
Susie
hi SI need to take both as I have a 70% blocked Lad artery that may need a bypass surgery if they can not fix it any other way .
They tried to stent but couldn't do it as artery was not up to it,they did put a balloon stent in which should help .for now I am undergoing further tests then meet with cardiologist at end of the month .
Hope that explains it .😊💔
"Dual Anti-platelet Therapy" (usually aspirin plus either Clopidogrel or Ticagrelor) is a common medication for us hearties, both short-term - 6-12 months after having stents, for example - or longer term.
I had 4 stents in February after failed triple bypass surgery. I was told to stop Aspirin after 6 weeks and have been told to carry on with Clopidogrel for life so I guess its different for everyone.
Oh that's interesting. I've been on aspirin since my heart attack, but had 1 stent soon after, resulting in the addition of Ticagrelor for 12 months, then a few months after finishing those, another stent and 6 months of Cloppy Dog, which I had to switch to Tica after 2 months because of, ahem, bowel problems!
Hi Maxbar I also suffer from similar issues but as discussed with a couple cardiologists there are no cost effective alternate to Aspirin if you are on dual Antiplat Therapy.
However if you have option to choose between two on single Anti Plat you can choose Plavix if aspirin doesn't suit you.
The way to take aspirin can impact its side effects. Take enteric coated with food and with breakfast or lunch. Take mint or herbal green tea after eating. Eat small portions, take simple diet easy digestible. You can use gaviscon syrup if you feel bloating & gas.
I am sorry you will have to bear it for as long as cardiologists advise you to switch to single anti plat agent. Don't change any medications without doctors advise.
Hope it was helpful.
Thanks
You really need to speak to a doctor. They are the only people who are able to advise properly. It might be worth trying the enteric coated aspirin, but I can't take aspirin and the potential for problems is a minefield. They are used to weighing up the pros and cons, and what alternatives there may be.
I used to take gastro resistant aspirin which didn't affect my stomach at all.
It helps to take your aspirin after probiotic natural yoghurt with a little honey or after a meal even if you are taking a PPI , have you been doing that? The enteric aspirin variety is also useful. As is increasing your water intake each day.
If you try these methods and you still have a problem it is something to discuss with the GP, hope things improve soon , Bee
After my TAVI in mid-July, my surgeon prescribed just Clopidogrel. My GP was keen for me to take Lansoprozole as well; my surgeon said it wasn't necessary. Then she issued a prescription for Omeprazole (??!! - see above for cautions). Again the surgeon said I didn't need to. But ever since my operation I had had uncomfortable bloating and violent flatulence, so for the past three weeks I've been taking Lansoprozole, which very quickly reduced the flatulence to normal and eased the bloating - though, so far, not completely.
