Hello I was put on waiting list for a pacemaker today but told it will be over a year before I can get one, I'm dreading feeling so tired and ill as I have for the last few months for another year or more I'm getting very down and depressed. Has anyone got any coping strategies or anything I can do to help myself to cope or feel better while waiting I'm 74.
.Thanks for any help you can suggest.

Hello, I’m so sorry this is happening to you. My husband is also waiting for a pacemaker (his is a replacement of an old one) and has been waiting for almost a year. I’m a big believer in distraction. Try to plan things to do, even small things like going to the local shop, meeting a friend for coffee, a gentle walk. Have something you are going to do every day, even if it’s clearing out a cupboard or organising something, Also plan some bigger things like a day trip or a holiday, a year is a long time to wait so decide to fill it. Remember exercise is a good thing in moderation and getting out always helps to see that there is life out there, and other people. Try to connect with others and feel a part of something - in our area we have various clubs and organisations doing things and it’s possible to get involved at different levels from doing everything to just occasionally joining in. Talk to people about how you are feeling, you might find a lot of support you didn’t know was there. There is an old Chinese saying, live every day as if you will live forever and every day as if it’s your last. I often think of it when I’m struggling and trying to remain positive for my husband. I hope this helps, and I wish you all the best x
