Should I be worried that I had blood today in my stool

michellefisherm profile image

Happy Wednesday. I am taking following medicines:

Metformin 1000mg twice a day

Aspirin 81mg at night

Losartan 12.5mg at night

Metoprolol extended release 50mg at night

Prasugrel 10mg at night

LAST NIGHT I switched from Atorvastatin 40mg every night to Rosuvastatin 20mg. I am not sure if this switch caused bleeding.

I am also taking Omega 3 980mg 3 times a day.

Before I contact my physician, I just wanted to get experiences from others as it helps me ask better questions to my physician.

Thank you

Is it maybe a side effect of one of your many medications xx maybe ask your gp just to be safe ❤️

I have been wondering if Baby aspirin and Prasugrel both being anti-platelets caused it.

I suggest you just make an appointment to see your physician, the sooner the better. There are several reasons you could be bleeding some of them have nothing to do with medication, although medication cannot be discounted. Don't be concerned about getting prepared just let your physician ask the questions to try and identify the cause.

It could be something as simple as piles but blood in the stools should always be taken seriously so contact your GP

Get to the doctor and get it checked out.

A lot depends on uf it's bright, fresh blood, or old blood.I've had that, and contacted the GP. I must say I felt he was very casual about it, I know this can happen on any form of anticoagulant, but my brother died of bowel cancer, as well as 2 other members if my family, and I did expect a poo sample test as a basic precaution.

Get checked antway, for your peace of mind.

It is fresh blood and I did have colonoscopy last year and everything was fine

Still see or talk to GP, you might need a change of medication, but it's worth it for peace of mind.

Hello Michellefisherm, aspirin can be highly irritating to the stomach lining and cause bleeds. Best to get it checked out by your doctor.

I have been taking Aspirin 81 mg for close to 10 years and wondering if it caused it.

I was told by my GP that aspirin can cause haemorrhoids to bleed. It would be a good idea as others have said to check with your GP, just to put your mind at rest.

My mother-in-law had a bowel haemorrhage after taking it for a few years and I gather, in the UK, it's not always prescribed anymore because of these risks

It could be something or nothing. One for your GP to answer as others have said.

Try to ring your gp and get checked out, hopefully it will be something simple 🤞 but better to be on the safe side

hi. I’m currently going through tests for the same thing. I’m on warfarin and my gp said that it could have caused the blood in my stool but that, to be on the safe side, I should be checked. I had a fit test which found blood in my stool (although a low score) so he referred me to hospital. I’ve recently had a ct colonoscopy and I’m waiting for the results. I know a couple of people who were diagnosed with bowel cancer and I didn’t want to take any chances. I must admit that it’s been a very worrying time but I’m told that there are a multitude of reasons why you can find blood in your stool. Best to get checked.
