Should I be getting pain by my Pacemaker

I’m still waiting for my next cardiologist appointment hopefully in the next few weeks , pain has been increasing by my pm, it started as a very mild discomfort on the left edge , every day gets more painful especially after I’ve been reaching up or been more active at home , nothing too strenuous , it’s been 6 months since it was fitted . Today I was walking slowly to take my daughter to the park, only up a slight slope , I’ve felt a couple of tugs is the best way I can describe it by the pm , only for a few seconds . Pacing team said everything looks ok so can’t be the pacemaker not working as it should . I have heart pauses and Tachy/Brady . How long do I wait for my appointment as I’m getting a bit concerned over my symptoms . I’ve had to start taking codeine for the pain .

I've had mine for 16 months and I still get twinges and stabs if I overstretch or use my arm/shoulder a bit to much, I think we just have to accept that the gizmo is sitting in a very mobile area and we are bound to get the odd ouchy bit. I've been digging in the garden today so I expect I will know about it later on ! If you've been checked and given the all clear try not to focus or worry about it, eventually everything should settle from the trauma.

I have had a pm for 13 years but never had pain near the site just the normal discomfort for a while after implantation and feeling the sharp edge of it when I curl up in bed. If you are very worried about the pain contact your Consultant’s secretary and say you would like someone to phone you with advice. The tachy/brady and ectopics may not record on the pm - mine don’t as the episodes are considered too brief.

Hi, I had mine fitted last September and have keloid scar which constantly rubs on the top of the pacemaker - it is VERY painful at time. My cardiology team just dismissed it - and basically said live with it, which isn't ideal as I have to take painkillers to get to sleep! I'm going to leave it until the next appointment and then I'll make scene!

Thank you for your reply , what is a keloid scar ? I haven’t needed pain relief for a few weeks , I was taking tramadol as I’ve had pericarditis and an effusion , I’m wondering because I stopped the tramadol that pain relief was masking the pain I’m now getting near the pacemaker. I need to take pain relief to get to sleep too .

Interested to read your post as I spent a very uncomfortable night last night with pain round my pacemaker which was implanted in March. It started as a niggle yesterday afternoon but cannot recall having done anything to trigger it. Will wait and see if it settles before contacting the clinic.

I would suggest you talk to the arithmetic nurse as I had problems with my original pacemaker. My pacemaker was moving as it hadn’t been fitted deep enough. Operation to have pacemaker re-pocketed under general, which went well until it was removed as they thought it was infected. New pacemaker seems to be behaving itself, although my mobility is getting worse, mainly due to my advanced years.
