My husband has been on Ezetimibe for 10 years with no problems.

My Gp decided to put me on them as well as my Atorvastatin and I tried them for a few weeks, they gave me terrible wind so I stopped taking them and when I next saw my cardiologist he said why did your GP give you those for you don’t need them?

I’m not saying you’ll have the same problem and I hope they suit you, that’s the problem with meds is what’s great for one can be no good for another, Atorvastatin works well for me.

Hope it all goes well.

I’ve been taking them for a year and no problems. The usual statins hadn’t caused me any side effects but blood tests indicated an adverse reaction with liver enzymes.

I started them a week ago along with the the Atorvastatin 80mgs I have been taking for nearly 5 years. The aim is to try to reduce my triglyceride levels. Definitely a bit of bloating but worth the suffering for me if they do the job.

After our last GP put my wife on statins.......twice , which made her ill they finally switched her to Ezetimibe and she's been OK on those since day one.

After having similar issues in my legs with Atorvastatin, Simvastatin and Pravastatin, I was prescribed Ezetimibe. I had no issues with it, but after a year I had tests which revealed it had had no effect whatsoever on my cholesterol. I was persuaded to try Rosuvastatin which, after a two week bedding in period, I have no issues with. This does actually lower my cholesterol.

On Ezetimibe and Rosuvastatin. I don't tolerate other statins at all but this combination causes me no issues at all apart from very occasional flatulence.

Hi Dossy I said recently I would let you know how I was getting on with Ezetimibe, my GP has taken me off these due to painful legs and has now prescribed Bezafibrate, I will see how I get on with these. Hopefully Ezetimibe is ok for you.

Thanks for the update. So far so good for me as no more painful cramps. I've just had a blood test which will reveal how effective they are for me

I started Ezetimibe a few months with Rosuvastatin only taking them every second day for a month, now on it full time. Every other statin didn’t work for side effects but if you gradually build it up it might help

Hi Dossy I can’t tolerate statins either! I have been on Ezemitibe for a month , the only symptoms I have are aching legs, but have recently had the flu or c for about a month also so not sure which one it is. I will see in another month if the problem continues.

Will keep you updated.

I have been taking Rousouvastation ( Crestor) for years and no side effects. Doctor added Ezetimibe to help lower LDL and it did. he said LDL will only go down about 9-10 points with Ezetimibe. and mine went down the 9 points. so it is an "additonal" help in lowering LDL along with regular use of statin to lower all cholesterol. Crestor is a good one to try .

Hi. I also on ezitimibe for similar reasons. I have not had any additional problems from it. I still have issues with the statins though.

I've tried 3 statins and had leg cramps with two and the worst nightmare stomach pains with the other! I'm on Ezetimibe still but not much difference with it by itself. The chemist I get my prescriptions from say Ezetimibe works with statins so he was surprised I was taking on its own. The lipid clinic wants me to try another statin but unfortunately I needed to sort out low iron symptoms before I started anything new. I recommend trying as many statins...and then when they've exhausted them some GPs can prescribe a fortnight injection that lowers cholesterol without any side effects! Repatha or inclisiran are the names of the two I've heard of but NHS only prescribe them to the very statin intolerant cos they are expensive. So keep trying...there is a light at the end of the tunnel even if they don't tell you! Xx

Hi Dossy

I’m really struggling with my statins 80 mg Astorvastin, it’s only been 6 weeks & my feet & back are hurting, how long do they let you suffer before trying an alternative?

Also is there a link between low iron & statins at all?

HiI went back to my GP complaining of pain each time of being on 3 brands of statins

Originally I was on 40mgs Atorvastatin which was doubled to 80 after heart attack but I couldn't tolerate the pain. Then given Simvastatin which was no better and then more recently Rouvastatin( may have spelt this wrong!)

I probably tolerated each one for months but if you're in pain after such a short time then go back to your doctor.

As I couldn't tolerate Statins then that is why my GP has put me on Ezetimibe. Time will tell how this works for me.

I don't know if statins affect iron levels but you could ask Google!
