I’m new here but I thought i would just ask if anyone had similar problems, im really worried .
First I just want to say my mum died from dilated cardiomyopathy aged 58 , started with symptoms around 56 , the age I am in December.
For a couple of years now I’ve been having mild chest pains, after several trips to the doctor he finally referred me for a stress test , results came back as dilation at stress , therefore I had an MRI which came back clear , no futher tests and I was signed off .
A year on and I’m still getting pain which has gradually become worse , last night was particularly bad. They only last for a minute or two each time but the amount of them is increasing and the intensity of them too , I had an incident at work that really frightened me where a pain shot from my heart to my arm to my jaw , really shook me up then within a few minutes I was absolutely fine!
In jan I had a cholesterol test and it came back 8+! ( familial cholesterol ) so now I’m on Atorvastatin .
I’m back at the doctors Thursday as I’m very worried however I don’t seem to be getting anywhere with him at all and he just keeps putting it down to muscular which I keep saying it’s not that kind of pain!
I was wondering if anyone is similar, the pains can come at rest and when I’m moving , there’s nothing that brings it on really but I do know it’s worrying especially as I’m a similar age to my mum when she died.
Thanks everyone .

Can't imagine the worry you must feel knowing your mum died from dilated cardiomyopathy 💔 sorry for your loss x does your gp know this and run any genetic tests to see if there's a family link? Chest pain is tricky one, I get these sort of pains and like yourself don't last long so probably safe to assume not heart related or would last more then 5 minutes I've been told by my cardiac nurse. It is scary though I agree!! It's very sudden and random always at rest aswell. Hope your able to find out whats causing the chest pain!
Thanks so much for the reply , I’m glad you think maybe not heart related, Im just anxious as I’m the same age my mum was ; the doctor does know about my mum yes , il try again with the doctor and see what he suggests , but hopefully something and nothing , thanks for taking the time to reply.
Can only advise about the Atorvastatin… I am on 40 mg and it has lowered my cholesterol by half from 6.5. Don’t be afraid to take it as I put it off for years as it can worsen joint pain…however I have definitely not had any such side effects. Good luck and hope all goes well for you 🙂
If I were you I would ask for a CT scan to see if you have plaque in your arteries, this can only really be seen I have been told on a CT scan, I had a stress test and it came back clear, I had a MRI and it came back clear , I also only had a cholesterol score of 5.8 which is not technically high enough to take statins, but the CT said I had a calcium score of 65 , I am on statins now and my cholesterol is 2.6 taking 20g it was even lower on 40 but my liver was suffering so I dropped a dose,
I have to say that I am dealing with all this as a private patient and this is the way to go to get things done and have peace of mind ,
