Chest pains...

Hi guys... I have posted on here before and that I was recently diagnosed with HF I’m currently waiting for an appointment to see my cardiologist and heart failure team however I keep getting chest pains and shoulder back and arm pain also... they have told me they think these pains are not linked to my heart however I feel like they are.... I’m so scared it could be a sign of a heart attack and I am terrified something is going to happen.... has anyone else had these feelings ?

Jamie

We talked a bit yesterday. Is there someone you can call to state your symptoms. See what they say?

Hi yes I remember 😊 gave me some great information which helped... erm i spoke with the doctor who diagnosed me and she’s convinced these symptoms could be down to stress or anxiety due to me panicking about the what’s going on etc.... it’s still a scary situation considering I was told for so long there was no issue with my heart after countless ecgs and blood tests.... am I just getting worked up and causing the pains myself ?

I have a brother with heart failure

If he called me and said he was having symptoms I would want an ekg.

Im sure many people may disagree with me here.

I know you have anxiety from this diagnosis and that is completely understood.

I would rather walk into an md office and have 500 negative ekgs and a quick check.

Did you ever get in touch with the nurse that's available here on the site?

Sounds like they are good resources.

Yeah I think I’ve had around 18 now and every one has come back clear.... sometimes the pains just go away on there own like before I was diagnosed with HF I hadn’t had any chest pains in over 2 weeks and felt as if everything was back to normal... nooo I haven’t I’m afraid I wasn’t 100% sure what I was coming into on the forum... how would I find the nurse ? Silly question I know haha

Not a silly question lol

Because I don't know either

I'm sure someone else will have an answer for you.

It's so good you are reaching out here. So many knowledgeable people to help you.

Hi Jamie, got to A&E and tell them what’s going on. They will give you an ECG and test your bloods! This is the quickest way to rule out anything sinister.

From a positive perspective, please believe you have your chance in life and grasp it with both hands mate, don’t mess with your health and take it as a positive that you know you have an issue that you can now take back control of, and you can mate!

Hi Dave.... I’ve been countless times with similar sort of pain before I got diagnosed and every time it has come back clear and nothing sinister.... not sure what it could be.... I hope I can eventually get over this

in reply toJamie27

It is scary Jamie but I think your Doctor could well be right. My opinion only obviously. Stress and Anxiety bring on a lot.....!

Haha no worries! Yeah speaking to people has helped I mean.... I’ve been having chest pains for well over a year and been checked countless times.... no signs of a heart attack etc so I think it could just be possibly down to muscle pain etc my doctor mentioned chostiocondrytis which is inflammation of the rib cage but who knows.... it’s just a case of waiting now I suppose

Ok good you've been well checked out that's great.

I guess you just need to be aware of changes anything different than this type of presentation.

Go out and enjoy your day.

If you ever need anything just reach out.

Yeah my girlfriend says the same... if there’s a time I ever feel different to ring for help straight away.... some days are worse than others then other days I barley notice anything... another reason why I think this is down to anexity I get leg twitches etc...

thanks for the support it really does mean a lot

Hi Jamie27

I had cardiac arrest in Nov 17 since then ive had 2 stents fitted. From that day ive had left shoulder pain and heavy left arm and pins and needles in my left hand. A few times in the day i get chest pains and lower back ache and jaw ache. After many tests im still waiting for a prognosis the team of medical professionals who i see dont seem concerned but that doesn't help me understand why i have these symptoms. No one has ever explained why i feel like this but i see from online forums im not the only one . In these days of technology and medical enhancement from a normal existence to having to take 8 different tablets a day feeling tired and fatigued doesn't make sense. I just wanted to enlighten you to the fact you are not the only one !

in reply toDingdongdong

Hi dingdongdong - just read your post and wondered if you had ever read about carpal tunnel syndrome which can be caused by atherosclerosis, and effectively damages the nerve that runs down the arms. I have been reading up on this to discuss with my doctor as I get severe pins and needles in my arms. Just thought you might want to read up on it. All the best

Thanks for that but the pins and needles are in my small finger and ring finger plus the pain runs from the middle of my left shoulder down my arm my elbow aches and my arm feels heavy . And i have reduced grip because of this ! If i carry a shopping bag my left arm gets a sharp pain running up to the shoulder .

I'm newly diagnosed with HF too and I would be scared.

I would go to A&E when you get the pains or ring 111 peace of mind is important, and they will hopefully give you that. The ambulance crew can do an ECG at your home and again this will help

It’s abit of a strange one with the pains as when I’m walking around or doing something we’re I’m not just sat down I don’t really get them.... that’s why I’m so confused

Hi guys quick update.... so I’ve had a conversation with a cardiac nurse and they have told me a lot of useful information to help try calm me down... I’ve also just spoken with the nurse I saw on Tuesday who’s confirmed there is damage to my muscle but at the moment they may want to do a angiogram is it ? I’m not sure of the name with the cardiologist team... at the moment with my age they don’t think I’m at risk of having a heart attack which is the thing I’m most afraid of but now I just want to see the cardiologist to see what the next step is... I mean I hadn’t had any of these chest pains etc for over 2 weeks until I had my ultrasound and on the Sunday before I played football as normal with no pain what so ever I’m so confused with what’s happening

I'm glad you spoke to someone. Yes there is a weakened muscle, that's what she was referring to as damage?

You are doing the right thing. Stay proactive in your care.

I’m just trying to take every little bit of information that doesn’t sound bad as a real positive... with me being 27 it’s very hard to take at the minute... all I’m hoping is when I see the cardiologist they give me an insight to how serious or not so serious this is likely to be.... at the moment now I’m just taking everything as it comes

I too have been suffering from upper arm and central sternum ache. Mine is like a constant ache. My cardiologist thought it might be rheumatic arthritis and said it's not cardiac. (I'm 49). My gp did a blood test but haven't had results. I am 49 with hypertension and normal ejection fraction (55%). I have been told to go to A and E by some people but I would be there most days and wasting my time. I also have diabetes. Just letting u know I too have this symptom (since March)

Jamie27 in reply toCaitlyn6

Hi guys thanks for the posts.... yeah I’ve had them for roughly on and off for well over a year now.... I’ve been countless times and they always say it’s not cardiac but I’m still terrified it is.... I’m happy I know I’m not alone but it’s definitely something we all don’t want

Especially as you have muscles in ur arms and the heart is a muscle. I thought it was that the arm muscles are not getting enough oxygen, hence the aches in upper body.
