Hi guys. Im 35 and I've been having chest pains since January. Well pain in the left rib cage under breast with pain and weaknesses in left hand. Had 2ECGs that came back fine. Dr said it's Costochronditis. It'll go on it's own. ( No meds given..)

Pain never stopped. Its off and on everyday since. GP said I should get a Tropanin blood test but I'm scared to go to A&E in the pandemic. What do i do ?

Go to A & E

Its most likely to be the safest place to be at present

It will also put your mind at rest

Act now leave it until its to late and you may not have the chance to do anything about it

I'd been having chest pains and breathlessness for 10 days, spoke to my GP and she wanted me to call an ambulance, hubby was off work so reluctantly I went to A&E I was scared to go, it was practically empty. I was asked to fill a form in, they asked a brief explanation why I'd gone to hospital then gave me a mask, all the other patients were wearing them as were all the doctors and nurses, they sent me through to waiting area all marked out with distancing instructions, only 4 people there, usually its full. They kept all the patients apart, two weeks on and I don't have any symptoms of covid. I had two ecgs, two blood tests and chest x-ray, nothing showed up apart from being told ECG wasn't normal I didn't get any explanation why I'd been having chest pains apart from possible anxiety even though my ECG wasn't normal. The Dr that reviewed me wasn't very informative and just sent me home, told me to go back if I wasn't feeling well again. My GP said many people are scared to go naturally but more people were getting ill because they were too scared to go. Please please go, I know it's a scary time but better to go and get checked over.

Definitely follow the GP’s advice. They wouldn’t send you to A&E if they thought you’d be at risk and you can be sure the hospital will take all precautions. Plus, you’ll probably be seen relatively quickly at the moment.

I’ve had similar rib cage pains (left and right) over the past couple of months which can also go to collar bone/ Shoulder area. GP’s and cardiologist think it’s musculoskeletal. I exercise through it without a problem and suspect anxiety plays a part. I can actually feel the tender spots on my ribs if I palpate them. So, I’ll be interested how you get on.

I’m sure you’ll feel reassured once you’ve gone.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for your suggestions and recommendations I really do appreciate it a lot.

I went to A& E today, had a bit of a wait but all for a good cause.

I got ECG, Tropanin blood test & chest X-Ray and ALL came back well. No heart issues , NO, Cholesterol nothing......phewww!!

However, as @84green was saying.... the Dr reckon it is indeed musculoskeletal related to Costochronditis and will go away on its own which is a pain.

Thank God it's nothing major. But I do believe my anxiety does play a role as well.

Happy Monday xx

Great news, I was starting to worry! Never underestimate the physical manifestations of anxiety. Perhaps try some meditation or yoga?

Don’t know much about costochronditis so can’t help. I’ve been using liberal amounts of Tiger Balm.

Relax and enjoy your evening.

Thanks so much for checking in as well I appreciate it and everyone who followed.

I never knew anxiety did actual damage to the body until the nurse said. My gp could've explained more i guess no blame game intended....

I'll try my best to relax and see how it goes.

Hi there

If your GP has recommended a troponin blood test, I would have it. When I had my Nstemi Heart attack a year ago, I had several tests which didn’t reveal anything and the troponin test was the very last test available. The Drs I had seen had all thought it was okay but as a matter of procedure did the test and they discovered I had had a type of heart attack which doesn’t always clearly show on ECG which led to further tests thus discovering the previously unknown genetic condition causing the problem which lead to the surgery which saved my life. I’m not saying you have anything wrong but for a simple blood test it would provide the proof of what it may be or peace of mind that you could do with to ease your frustration and anxiety. Stay safe and take care.

Thanks a mil for checking in and sharing your own symptoms. It's scary when it's chest pains. I'm glad I got the tests done and I'm fine and you are fine too.

I'll use the meds and try to cope.

So glad I signed up to this website.

Xx
