I cannot take Magnesium orally as it upsets my digestive system (have hiatus hernia) but l have BetterYou Magnesium Oil Body Spray. (Magnesium chloride). That combined with vitamin B12 plus B Complex and Vitamin D & C have made a difference in the frequency of AF episodes. It’s important to keep your electrolytes correct and this can be monitored with a blood test.

If you look through the list of next posts below the replies on your post there was another post about Magnesium yesterday which I added a reply on which you might find useful. Most people choose to use a more all purpose Active Form of Magnesium like Magnesium Glycinate which is easier to absorb, but you do need to ensure that you can take magnesium with your type of condition and medications by speaking to your GP or cardiac team.

People with various health conditions , including Diabetes. Oestoporosis and during cancer care , and on numerous types of medication need proper advice about whether taking Magnesium of any sort is safe for them, and will usually be recommended to be taken at lower doses at different times to their prescribed medications to reduce the risks of isolated hypotension and sudden low heart rate.

I go into this in more detail in the reply on the other post.

Magnesium Taurate is more often used specifically for cardiac function in a particular and supervised way . It has been used more often by people like athletes to improve physical endurance. The Taurine element of this compound also features in many energy drinks which is further proof that taking this supplement requires more care and tapering up from a low dose .Most research has been done on animals in relation to cardiac specific improvements.

You can get all the magnesium you could possibly need from your diet, just Google magnesium rich foods. I'm vegan so get far more than I need.

Have very little problem with my Af and lower BP as a result since I went vegan.

All the best.

I take a print which makes vitamins hard to be digested from food even tho I eat lots of green veg, salmon etc.

Ppi not print.

Magnesium is not a vitamin though and does not need to be digested. The food is just a shell containing the magnesium.

So not sure what you are saying?

All the best.

Hi Roy ,I know mag is not a vitamin but what I meant was because I take a PPI ie Lansoperazol, they can stop you getting minerals and vitamins from being digested.Hope this is a bit clearer. Thanks for your reply.

Hi Ethel. Minerals don't need to be digested, once they are in your body they stay there until your body gets rid of them. Magnesium homeostasis is maintained by the intestine, the bone and the kidneys. Magnesium is absorbed in the gut and stored in bone mineral, and excess magnesium is excreted by the kidneys and the faeces.

All the best

Oh wow you sound very knowledgeable. I was still.led to believe because of low stomach acid I would have problems with getting enough vitamins etc.I do have low thyroid, vitamins iron and b12.Strange .

Hi Ethel

Vitamins are a completely different matter to minerals, as they do need to be absorbed through the digestion process. Hence your low levels of vitamins. B12 is an oddball as it comes from a bacteria found in soil. and we only get it nowadays by eating stuff that has eaten soil or been in contact with a water source containing it.

Your body will even absorb magnesium through your skin without it going anywhere near your digestive system and before I went vegan I used a spray on magnesium in case my levels were too low.

I assume you have trouble with calcium levels too.

All the best.

Cheers Roy been nice chatting lol.

RoyMacDonald in reply to ETHEL103

You too. I just read that PPI's can interfere with the absorption of B12 and soil nowadays is deficient due to all the pesticides used killing the bacteria so meat is gradually becoming a poor source as the animals that feed on grass are getting less and less, but I guessing your Dr told you that already. Hence the worry by the WHO about the general state of the worlds soil.

All the best.

Yes, magnesium bis-glycinate is what I use; works great. It is also good for blood pressure. Buy a reputable pure elemental product, it costs a bit more but worth every penny in my opinion.
