stopping bisopromol

Hi All, hope you are keeping well.

In the last 18 months I’ve paid privately to see the consultant who put the stent inside of me.

It started with paying for an echo cardio gram and also a fitness test because I put it down to the meds I was on, but that general feeling of dog****. Fatigued.

I’ve been taking an 80mg avorstatin, 5mg bisopromol, 5mg ramapril and 75mg aspirin.

My cholesterol was in an acceptable range so my consultant was happy to explore and we dropped my stating to 40mg and monitored for 3 months, had another cholesterol blood test and I’m still in a good range on the HDL/LDL ratio.

I’ve also dropped my bisopromol from 5mg to 2.5mg. That has had the biggest impact I feel.

Generally I have been feeling better although it becomes relative as this is my first go at 52 years old, and half the battle is knowing what you feel and attributing it to either aches and pains through age etc etc.

Generally I’m pretty active, I exercise daily.

What my question is, I’ve never really be onboard with all these tablets, prior to my HA I went 47 years with just breaking a few bones with motorbike accidents, therefore all these tablets never sit well.

The next stage in November 2023 is to totally come off of my bisopromol as apparently of the drugs I am on, bisopromol is not essential to keeping me from having a recurrence and my lifestyle changes and headspace supports a possible move in this area.

This is great, see above, I would dearly like to come off all the drugs. And ultimately replace them with lifestyle changes.

When my consultant said about coming off Bisopromol, I was like, whey, ok, right, but it sounds scary.

I’ve Already stopped smoking, then vaping, don’t really drink much alcohol. Did that straight away.

But half the battle is knowing where to go, what to reference and ultimately I would like to work with an alternative medicine doctor, as an example I’ll buy and eat the natto, I don’t care that it takes aweful etc. I’m lucky I don’t work but I’m 52 and feel that I’m a long time taking these tablets and should at least explore even if it’s a do nothing conclusion.

I’d really appreciate people’s views and opinions. And wouldn’t act on any of them, but would appreciate any knowledge or advice

Thanks and have a great Sunday

Hi Buddy, I’m in bisoprolol too (quadruple bypass on 25th July this year) just finding my way with the meds . Dropped bisoprolol from 3.5 to 1.5 then I asked for it to go up to 2.5mg as I found my BP was edging up from low normal to over high normal. I felt spaced out on 3.5mg, first meeting with consultant after 4 weeks and he said he’d try and get me off Bisoprolol in the long run. It’ll be inters to see what others say about coming off the meds vs natty. I’m not sure it’s the right thing for me even though I’m making a real effort with nutrition . I was probably drinking a bit too much prior and not alive to the effect of salt in diet even though I was fit & strong on the outside I’d kicked the back doors off it over the decades too lol.

I’m hoping my next blood tests show improvement in cholesterol etc. then see where it goes from there.

I’ve kicked as much processed foods out of my diet as possible, even making my own bread 🤣.. trying to follow a Mediterranean style diet and I’m pretty active physically around our small holding and just started cardiac rehab. I’m also glad to be back on my little 125 motorbike 👍.

Looking forward to see what is posted .

Hi Mate, it’s great that you are proactive in getting your life back in order, making priorities around health now become important. I think what I’ll probably do is reduce from 2.5mg bisopromol to 1.25 and then see what happens. I’ve got a daily charge of morning, noon and night for the consultant to review of my BP, and also resting heart rate as well.

Hopefully one of these really knowledgeable people will come on and add some good info on some of the other parts of my post.

People talk about Natto which is a Japanese good which is apparently really good at lowering cholesterol, and can replace the statin.

I wish you well with your cardio rehab, do keep up all the good work and together I do believe we can all make a happier now.

Rgds Steve
