Numbness, pins & needles in hands

Hi All,

I’ve been suffering with pins & needles and numbness in my hands when I’m sleeping which wakes me up.

I’ve suffered with it for quite some time but is getting worse as it happens in the day. Just wondering if it could be heart related to do with oxygen levels & blood flow?

Im on bisoprolol 1.25mg but no other meds, I have an ICM fitted, I suffer with idiopathic ventricular tachycardia, had an ablation last September. I’m back at hospital in June so should no for certain whether ablation was successful or I’ll need another one.

Thanks in advance for any advice

we can’t diagnose here. However, I did suffer from this a few years ago and it was cured by an osteopath. So you could find N osteopath or chiropractor, or physiotherapist, and ask for a consultation

I was wondering if it could be a back problem

Thanks for your reply

It's more likely joint problem in shoulders, neck even back- I got that years ago- was told to go to one pillow- you can also try chiropractor to see if problem with neck

As Happyrosie says - can't diagnose here' - but it does sound like something I have suffered from. I have neck & lower back issues which add to the heart concerns. However, GP diagnosed Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) and he sorted my right hand with an injection of corticosteroid - brilliant! Just waiting fir the left one to be done. Ask your GP if it could be that. Hope all goes well for you.

Hi . I had similar and related to my Thyroid function. Maybe ask your GP if you can have a blood test to check your Thyroid levels . Best of luck

I had this issue, and it took a very long time to diagnose. In my case it was spondylitis in my neck where the nerve emerges from the spinal cord together with vitamin b12 deficiency. It took a long time to resolve because there were a huge number of potential causes. I recommend asking your GP. In my case it was the pain waking me up (and it was real pain, not mild discomfort) that was the focus for resolution. Good luck.

How was the cervical spondylitis diagnosed and treated?

Diagnosis by CT scan. Have option to have vertebrae fused, but am currently managing by physio to prevent the nerve being agreavated. I can now "switch on/off" the symptoms, largely through change in posture. Surgery remains an option, but as long as I am able to manage will stay as I am. The vitamin issue has generally reduced the sensitivity.

Hi, I've had pins and needles on and off ever since I had a heart attack, 2 yrs ago. It goes through periods of being frequent, then weeks without any. For me I think it's related to low BP and low HR, as these are quite low at night, which is mainly when I get the pins and needles too. Sometimes I wake with a numb arm too.

I feel it flares up more when I'm stressed or sick, or at times my body gets oversensitive. Had lots of tests, all normal so I just get used to it now.

Hi. My hands have been going numb at night for decades now. Doctors haven't been able to pin it down, but it started when I was doing a job that involved spending hours using a mouse and keyboard. Unfortunately it never went away and is probably worse now I'm taking blood pressure medication. Of course I can't say why you have it. But you may find that wearing a wrist splint helps. I use them sometimes, but it's not a cure.

Hubbt has that and it keeps him awake at night, might not be the same but his is carpal tunnel. He’s a farmer, and carrying buckets of milk have caused havoc. I hope you get sorted ok.

It's easy t lame pre existing conditions but anything new should be reported to your GP. You need a scan or x ray of your shoulders, neck, elbows all of which can cause trapped nerves. I get exactly the same fr om arthritis in my shoulders.
